I hate fluorescent lighting and will avoid buying CFL when I have my own place, unless I have dimmer switches (which I will if it isn't a rented place, or if my landlord gives me permission to).

 

people forget one thing when it comes to cfl's and mercury: one of the emissions from burning coal is ... MERCURY. yes, gaseous mercury... plus contamination from mining and disposal of ash.

At my old place our bathroom mirror was lined with CFLs and my roommate was always picking at his face because he was always stressed out about how bad his skin looked in that godawful light.

 

Televised charity fund raisers like "Children in Need", "Live 8", "Comic Relief" are just facades to cover up the need to promote new albums to make record labels more money.

Ironic because honesty shows a level of respect.. though most people aren't interested in truth or honesty anyway. Would you be better off if such people did like you?

 

^^ I've always said it's better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you're not. If people don't like you for you, you're better off without them.

 

I'm not sure, experience and speculation are so different.

 

Honesty is important, but I have found in my own experience that it is far more important to learn how to say things in a way that the person you are speaking to gets something positive out of it.

I know its common sense but around here it seems unpopular

 

If I'm doing the speed limit, I should be able to drive in any lane I want.

 

and if you're going 10 under, stop driving in the left lane right next to the guy going 10 under in the right lane.

 

Speed limits should be doubled...

That way those drivers that feel they must drive at half the speed limit will at least be going at a reasonable speed and those that feel they have the right to drive at twice the speed limit will be DEAD!

 

Speed limits should not go over 30 in residential areas without guard rails.

Other than that; there shouldn't be speed limits.


Traffic lights were a terrible invention.

Seatbelts should be optional.

Headlight brightness should be very tightly regulated.

If you're caught turning without signaling, you should get marks on your license.

 

I agree with everything you said minus traffic lights. How are they bad? I guess we could just use roundabouts and stop signs/4 way stops, but lots of people don't follow the rules at stop signs and think they always have the right-of-way (even over pedestrians). Traffic lights are an (almost) idiot proof way of dealing with traffic... which we need since a good amount of drivers are idiots.

 

We need the idiots out of our gene pool. Let the traffic light removal commence!

 

i don't know where you were in florida, but that state is famous for bad drivers.

 

I suggest that someone make huge rubber suction- cup guns and when somebody does something stupid--you shoot a suction cup with a red flag on a 3 foot shaft that will stick to their car. 3 flags and no driving for you!! For at least a week. "Removal by dummy"would be the charge in court if the bad driver takes 'em off his car himself.
