Yeah, science is all mumbo jumbo. Well thought out theories they don't even have the technology to prove. especially with space and the universe. What makes me laugh is when science gurus put down religion, like they think it's inconceivable that there could be a God, yet they cling to basically the same notion.. An unproven, theoretical view on cosmology. And then what's even funnier is they all argue about which theory is right. It's the big bang theory... No no it's the big rip, the big tear, it's string theory.... Errr no it isn't! Omg you're so wrong. They're arguing about unproven hypothesis and it's all "theoretical" pretty much like religion is. And they argue like two warring religious people. Dickheads.
Best method for making shit up you can't prove. Lol. That's why there's so many dumb theories and hypothesis. Cause it's all make believe, bullshit that only works in theories. If you want to keep it real walk out your door, that's as real as we're ever going to know from the sky to the floor, but banking on science theories will take you away into fantasy adventures akin to biblical faith.
If it weren't for science there would be no internet and you guys would not be having this discussion... Just sayin'
I don't care about science and technology, I'm specifically speaking about the universe and cosmology. That's the science that spends all the money searching for an answer they can't prove and for what? Man fuck that. Spend the money fixing the earth and atmosphere or something, who cares about the universe starter it makes no remote difference in anybodies lives so they should concentrate on the problems in the world that do.
I don't know now. Knowledge breeds preparedness. I'm sure, for example, the people who received evacuation orders ahead of Hurricane Michael were, in their subconscious, thankful for climatology and meterology. Science has enabled us to live longer lives, healthier lives, and, as Ty pointed out, gave us an internet platform on which to discredit science. People who hate science still benefit from it constantly. And they know it too.
Funny you'd even go there. I don't think most punk purists would consider me a punk purist. One of my favorite off shoots of punk is pop punk, so....yeah. Revoke my punk membership
"The words science and technology can and often are used interchangeably. But the goal of science is the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake while the goal of technology is to create products that solve problems and improve human life. Simply put, technology is the practical application of science." This, basically. When I talk science, I'm not talking about electricians in a shop floor assembling computer component and chips so no real point trying to tell me I rely on science to post this post. I'm relying on computer components doing their job to post this post. When I talk science, it's above and beyond space type stuff and not technology, that's why engineers design things, not astrophysicists. And it's all good if you find it all interesting, I just think it's ironic that science believers hold unproved theories as gospel because it sounds good to them. That is basically religion right there in a nut shell. So if you're into the mumbo jumbo theatrics of universal creation and cosmology, you're really grasping at the same straws as religious folks. That being, you really don't have any clue youselves what the real answers are, but there's hope in your hearts that what you're reading and digesting is truth but nobody knows, so I find it ironic.
I was being flippantly tolerant of people not being interested. Science is one of our big sets-us-apart-from-other-animals things. But you can't make someone take an interest. It's a shame if funding for science is lost through lack of public interest. Like, if they don't vote in people who prioritise it.
Except when it comes to things that can never be worked out This generation I will call the bullshit generation and we are neck deep in it You wont see a working truly quantum computer in your lifetime.
Well if the exceptions are the things that can NEVER BE WORKED OUT then science is still doing okay. I won't lose sleep over not seeing a working fully quantum computer in my lifetime.
In dutch we call dog breeds races. Hondenras. Maybe that human races have been (ab)used so much to force everyone in a specific racial category is what's causing aversion to the idea of acknowledging race as a real thing. The more humans intermingle the less race matters and the harder it is to actually put every individual in such a racial category. We're in that situation already. But I don't see why we can't acknowledge that we can still see the differences of when we were largely divided. Asian, African, Caucasian european: come on people, we came from different places in the world, we kept largely to ourselves for a significant time in human existence and it shows. That's what race is. To point it out very simply you go by the most apparent visual characteristic which happens to be skin colour, (but also often kind of hair or nose, or shape of the eyes). Yellow, black, white. Does this mean every white person is a Caucasian? No. Every dark skinned person is black or african. No. That's not useful or what's acknowledging race is about (its just often wrongly used for that). But it is clear we largely originated in the past as africans, asians, caucasians, etc. No need to get retarded about that. If we were dogs we would have called it different breeds. It should not be a big deal.
