"Perfect European tea drinkers"??? I can assure you that europeans drink tons of coffee for each cup of tea... So my post was not directed at the american society - neither the canadian society - as such... It was first of all directed towards my own society... love and understanding (lol) -wolf-
Starbucks is another big corporation out to make more and more and more money, at any cost... I suggest everyone drink Fair Trade coffee...from your local coffee shop...
That's exactly how I am. I hate it too. We have a starbucks on campus...I am too weak. cannot resist. I quit drinking coffee but when I have class or am meeting my study group I can't help but order a vanilla latte and a blueberry oat bar...I just can't help it ):
in canada our starbucks in tim hortons.... coffee generally makes me want to vomit...although i do like extremely sweet and 'not tasting like coffee' coffee...i like caffine
Sure, it would be expensive to go there every day. I go there like once every four months though for a triple shot mocha latte that costs like six bucks. If I were to go to any small coffee shop it would be about the same price. But since I dont go often, I dont mind the price.
And I do not like McDonald's coffee. Bleh. I do like DD coffee. Oh and I never get the regular coffee at Starbucks... don't think I've ever had it so maybe that's why I like it.
All of their coffee is fair trade and a lot of it's profits supports sustainible farming and clean water projects in thrid world countries. The onlt 'bad' practice they have going now is their over take of small independent coffee houses. One thing I don't like about them is that you have to pay extra for organic milk. If I'm getting a small latte for 3 something I shouldn't have to pay an extra 50 cents to ensure that there aren't chemicals, puss or growth hormones in my latte.
i rather work for starbucks than walmart though actually...i rather work at starbucks than a lot of places
Around here there are way more small family owned coffee houses then starbucks so I really don't care. And I have researched the practices of Starbucks quite a bit and Bella is right that it is all fair trade now. It didnt used to all be but it is now.
I agree their employees get benefits at 20 hours a week. I have a friend who is a grad student and works there just for the medical. He loves it.
actually our best local coffee shop also sells some teas they make themselves, I have a bag sitting in my cupboard of their sunset tea. And about three blocks south of that cafe (the Broadway Roastery), there's a family owned store called McQuarries that sells specialty tea and coffee... but mostly tea. They don't brew it for you, you go in and pick from at least 50 kinds of tea to take home. So while they aren't chains, they do exist. I kinda like Starbucks. I end up there a couple times a year, usually during the summer since their frappuchinos are fabulous and the local coffee shops suck at making anything cold and caffeinated aside from vietnamese iced coffee's (and even then, I make better ones at home)
