    Oh BS,

Plenty of male actors that loose their career when they get too old, Nick Nolte, Tom Hanks, Charlie Sheen - boy has he not aged well, Kurt Russell wouldnt have a career if Tarantino wasnt a fan, Jude law - pretty much as soon as he went bald etc etc. Just that they dont have some movement complaining about it.

Ones like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery represent the small few who win the genetic lottery and had oodles of onscreen charm throughout, even Brad Pitts carrer seems to be over for the most part.

You only have to go to one of those arthouse cinemas to see there are still roles for older women....usually taken up by the actresses that can actually act

If some older women become invisible or held in distain...it is usually becuase they have shitty personalities, spent their youth focused on their looks. Never lifted a finger to better themselves in other ways. That is, it is their fault, no one elses
Everyone has two types of older female relatives, the ones that are sweet old dears everyone loves. ...and the second type, the ones that are just rags, no one likes, becuase they only ever gave a shit about themselves

i'll believe all that blather, VanillaGorilla, when men are constantly bombarded w/ advertisements designed to cause them personal insecurity in order to motivate sales. the only equivalent insecurity driven marketing directed exclusively at men i've noticed is some anti-balding adverts.

Tom Hanks career has suffered due to his age? how odd then that he's been mentioned as an Oscar nominee for "Bridge of Spies".

one may also note that when an evil young women in a fantasy story is to be magically punished she is often punished with the instant loss of her youthful appearance b/c what could more horrible than being an old woman?

Ok, so they wouldnt have all those personal insecurities if it wasnt for all those advertisements mmmmm hmmmm....as long as its someone elses fault.

And Tom Hanks is no A lister anymore never will be, Oscar nom for a character actor part in a not all that successful film, good on him....nothing like the Castaway days, when hollywood could bankroll a film, just on him being in it

VG, since I have been here, I have noticed that you are very ageist, or have said many things here making you seem so....I mean you spoke about your own grandmother...hating her because of her age......What is going on in your life that makes you this way?

In this instance dormouse is trying to argue the reason Carrie Fischer is the least interesting part of this movie is becuase of ageism and sexism in hollywood

If Star Wars had been Diane Keatons first big break instead of Fischers, this movie would have been written differently to give her more screentime and a juicier role, BECAUSE she is a more interesting and better actress

    The argument itself is ridiculous

And remember Chewy was at least mature looking in episode three too so he has to be near like 100 years old now.

I remember at school I even think it was they said if you were to move around at the speed of light you would age really slowly, so I don't know why these characters are aging at all to be perfectly honest. How unrealistic.

    Ok

I assume you are talking about the time i said both grandmothers smelt gross when I was little.

What is going on in my life to make me this way?

So what, they didnt stink, was just my imagination or something? Dropped on my head as a child, not enough hugs from mom or dad

Whatever my current problem is, and we can fix it....then somehow that will make old people smell better?

Wow. The prequels were created by the guy who created the original Star Wars, and they at least had originality. If you want to tow the line with majority opinion and prefer a sad rehash of the original written by someone other than the original author, that's cool. To each their own, or apparently not, according to you.

Sweet opinion. I'll try not to toe whatever imaginary line you have in your head.

That doesn't even mean anything. I'm toeing some line because I liked the movie? I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself now. :(

I actually had to go back in this thread just to put things into context. It was an opinion on one day in time. Who gives a shit?

    At least they had originality?

So, the worse movie ever made, as long as its "original"....trumps what?.....everything else?

Even the Original Trilogy wasn't original, borrowed heavily from the Bible, Shakespeare, Edgar Rice Burroughs and H.G Wells......the bad guy ends up being the protag0nists father...you think thats original?

As for the prequels....even if there was some elements that were original, that some how makes up for the steaming pile of horseshit they were???

    Seriously?

Re Carrie Fisher; her life is an open book.

IMHO she looks pretty good for her age despite her drinking, her near death after a cocaine binge, and her bipolar disorder, in which she received Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

I worked at a psychiatric hospital so I know the effect it has on the patients and she seems to have pulled through just fine.
