Well, the problem I see with your argument is this: if you don't judge soldiers any differently than regular people, then you should view what they do in their jobs as murder. Of course, not all soldiers do any actual killing, but here we are talking about soldiers who went to war, to Iraq or Vietnam. And in this case, most of them did kill. Yes, many of them didn't kill innocent people, but considering that the wars were started by the US to begin with, the other person holding a gun is no excuse. The American soldier is still in a foreign country, murdering for no valid reason, just because he was told so by the government. If you judge them as people, you should understand that. The biggest problem is that many don't judge soldiers as people but as soldiers. They say "Yes, they kill, but it's ok because they are in a uniform".
Warfare has become a legacy of mankind. It's created by governments & ideologies & greed, paid with the lives of civilians & soldiers alike. There Are No Winners!! Just people trying to survive a time & a place they were forced into.
I am from the time of the tipping point in Viet Nam.My brother went,I protested.I would have gone to jail before going into the service.I didn't have to because I was in the first lottery and pulled a 256 for my birthday.that meant I got to stay home with my wife and family while some other poor schmuck had to decide for themselves whether to go,or to refuse or to dodge. I know that mant soldiers were spit upon.I have met some.I have seen pictures of some, and I have heard about some.I don't know the scale,or the percentages. I think it's counterproductive to spit on people, but I got spat upon in marches.I think that was pretty disrespectful too.I saw snipers pointing rifles at me.I have been teargassed.I never did any violent or destructive type protests. I think the soldiers got screwed by our government, way more than they did by some spitters. I still think it sucks to get spit on,and it's a sucky thing to do to someone else. It's not as bad a shooting someone else,or even threatening to.Things got out of hand on all sides.
We didn't start the war in Vietnam...we stepped into an ongoing thing and the war in Vietnam was nothing like anything we ever were involved in, before or since. Its facts and on record as part of our history....pfft
So it was okay for her to cut out Sharon Tates heart? My point being that i really didn't spit on anyone nor would i but for people to be worrying about someone being spit on 35 years ago is nuts. They should get over it.It did not kill them, they did not die.It was just f...ing spit.
ya and now this thread continues to spit and the spiting is being done by children! that apparently think that the history of the world began so shortly before they were born! in reality! it has taken a very loooong time for people to gain a voice witch we ar very quickly giving away! i aplaud all you yuong souls for speeking of peace! some say its the us and i can agree to some extent if you go back a little further you will find that the world would be very different if we together as a country did not band together with others! if you think that the freedoms we enjoy here are just somthing that we can keep with out sacrifice look at the history of other countrys! i beleive that the person who origanily started this thread has certainly been scard away from calling his or her self a "hippie" and if this thread defines one! i will never say i am! so lets get back to the topic ! i still think anyone that spit on a vet does is not worth his own spit!!!! i also think that this thread should just fade away !
my boyfriend is on his way to afghanistan..not by choice..and if it comes down to someone trying to kill him he better defend himself..you saying you wouldn't defend yourself you would rather die..is stupid..you have no idea wtf you would do..i respect all of our past, present, and future soliders.
you are really that dense aren't you? My god... The whole point is not the historical fact of it happening of whatever.. it's the principal of respect.. ways to protest etc etc and by the way.. if you are the 'it was in the past get over it' type of guy, what the fuck are you doing in the flashback forum anyway?
you can't argue with and idiot..and that's what the majority of you are...like my boyfriend is standing in line saying..."oh pick me pick me...send me off to war please..so i can kill people"...i wish they would line all you america haters in line and shoot you all
Been saying that on and off for pages, maybe not as blatantly...been also saying I was one of those that did actively protest/march about the Vietnam war. Its too obvious that many don't have any idea, especially when they lump whats happening in Iraq to what happened in Nam not the same situation and not even the same kinda war!! What happened in Nam is still in a league of its own. I think its funny inna sad way that so much has been said by some that obviously have nothing more than a minimum amount of imformation but still spout off narrow mindedly like they are experts in this part of American history. And sorry Paperclipart if this is too blunt but you are trying to compare two things that really are as different as apples and oranges. There is no draft. When you join the military you have to actually expect that you may be called to active service for christsake!! That is why they have a freaking military. Sorry if your bf watched one too many commericials and believed that it was some kinda great job opportunity and he's getting free tuition to school and that was it. Media glitzy commercials that make all kindsa promises. ~ Caveat emptor ~ ITS THE MILITARY, GET A CLUE! THEIR MAIN JOB IS TO PROTECT AND SERVE HOWEVER THE GOVT DEEMS NEEDED.
Who said anything about hating America? And what in the hell do you expect? Your boyfriend joined the army... wtf for? For the free food and the free pussy waiting for him across the sea?? And you call anti-war people idiots.
