Ok then, maybe you do get it, and of course you have the right to question the Government, and for those who say we should have fought the draft, get real, what do you think we were doing out in the damn streets, the only way we really had to fight it was to protest it. And once your number was up resistance was just absurd. This whole thread has gotten out of hand, some say we should be prosecuted, for what doing what we were told and living. Being drafted and going to war is not a crime. And for those who did commit war crimes our government prosecutes it's service men and women vehemently, can anyone recall My Lai and the massacre. These thing's happen, please remember we were fighting an enemy that had no rules. The VC and NVA knew no rules. I know there are some of you who don't care about any of what I say, you are convinced we did wrong and got what was coming to us in the form of spitting at us and hating us, to you all I can say is I wish you had a heart so you would know what it feels like to have it broken. I mean think about this, you were made to fight a war that you fought against, you were 19 or 20 years old just a kid, you did what you had to do and made it through. Now you are going HOME, no more war no more hate and no more constant fear of death, home safe and sound. But many did not find that peace, no welcome home no thank's for what you did, instead some felt rebuked and shunned, made to feel dirty. That is when confusion sets in and you feel your heart break, and yes you can feel that, it hurts. We should not be at each others throats over something that has already hurt so very many and continues to do so. I wish peace to all of you. Peace
LOL. Nothing can be further from the truth. The U.S. military turned the entire country of Vietnam into one big extermination camp, not to mention contributing to the tragedy that befell Cambodia, that led to the "killing fields". Razing entire towns, and villages, carpet bombings and indiscriminate use of firepower including the use of napalm, agent Orange, etc. not to mention massacres of civilians, such as occurred in My Lai. You lost the Vietnam War inspite of superior firepower, the folly of the greatest military force on earth failing to prevail over a third rate country like Vietnam. You think using brute military force alone would suffice to defeat the human spirit. Accept your defeat and move on, and remember that if you repeat the same mistake as is again happening in Iraq, you will lose once again.
Hey wbld your ass is showing. There wasn't a shred of fact in anything you said, just pure hate and ignorance. The one thing I'm sure of is the longer you keep it up the more people will see you for what you really are. A third rate country armed by the Russians with SAM missiles and the chinese Silk Worms not to mention the finest assault rifle ever made the AK-47. The killing fields were after we left the area and were the work of Pol Pot, know who he was? As far as the indiscriminate use of fire power there were objectives for every mission. I have to leave for work, I'd love to continue this a t a later date. Maybe some others would like to get a few words in in rebuttal to your horseshit lies. ~No Peace for you
shut up troll.... Your spewing garbage and irritating discussions with Personal attacks upon members of the forum based on beliefs they are or were in charge of military personnel or operation that did involve the military. You picked up a couple of text books as based your our opinion on literature not on fact or experience. You probable havent even been outside your own neighborhood. Let alone in Loas or Cambodia, Vietnam, ect. The county of Burma just got hit with a masive Cyclone. Do you really think they give a shit about the state of their military, when only a few months ago the county was in uprise, You got your mind on some stupid old anti-war shit to rile up military Vets and hippies alike.. While nothing you say has anything to do with spitting on Vietnam Vets. But spitting on the people in the fourm more like it. Really are you a Thalidomide Baby or something?
Whats going on in Iraq now is another example of not remembering our history. After the civil war in America there were groups of southerners who refused to accept defeat. After WWII there were groups in both Germany and Japan who ran military ops. against the occupation army's. Our government failed to plan for dealing with the returning Iraqi army. We won the war quickly, the peace will take longer. In VietNam the military was hamstrung by the political handlers in Washington. If a military commander took the initiative to lead he was reprimanded and relieved. If he spoke out about the mishandling of the police action (it was never declared a war) he was urged to resign or face never being promoted again. We had the means to win militarily but we never had the backing politically. The result was more death on both sides. We are showing signs of following that path in Iraq. If a C.O. in Iraq voices an opinion that is contradictory to Washington policy he loses his job. A yes man is brought in to replace him. If Washington takes control of the day to day fighting in Iraq it will turn into another VietNam. A soldier with an enemy sniper in his sights has to radio in for permission to shoot. I don't blame any of them for refusing to go. To get back on thread, if I see anyone trying to spit on a returning vet. wbld accused me of having a primal urge to kill, I was raised as a pacifist. That action would severely test those teachings. ~Pray for Peace
WAR IS FUCKING STUPID....the end ps. silverhippy, thanks for that i actually have realised something, im not sure how to explain it but now i wont always prosecute the soldiers...
Steve-peace got a question for you. If Michigan decided to annex the parts of Canada that border Lake Superior, and the other states that border the southern part of Canada decided to do the same, that would be ok with Canada? If not what action do you think might be taken to prevent that? I always thought Canada would make a great 51st state. Of course we would have to teach you all to speak english, eh? Your right war is stupid, but sometimes the alternatives are worse. The only thing required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing. Don't remember the exact quote thats close enough. ~Pray for Peace
Very cool then, and to me war is indeed stupid. We all need to realize we only have this one little world and this one life. That should be enough to make us wake up and knock off the madness. If only we all could find a way to get along. That would be a big task, we may have to get rid of religion ( let each man and woman keep God in his or her own way) politics as we know it would have to go. We need to see people as just that people and look for what we have in common and not look at the differences we may have. And please do not prosecute the soldiers for war, they are mere tools cannon fodder if you will for the leaders the war freaks that start these things. The soldiers do what they must to live, ask a soldier if he wants to go to war you will get a resounding NO. At least you have an open enough mind to at least listen to what someone else has to say and then step back and check out how you feel and take both feelings into account. it's a good start to understanding. Peace
yah i definitly feel a lot better now too that i have a realisation about it. and guys sorry that i was stubborn... on a lighter note, if we all work together we can prevent another war from tearing this world into pieces
NO ONE has to fight. Soliders fight to kill. Get the fuck out? Pussy? My, don't YOU sound educated.... if something is wrong with the country, rather than fix it, run away? Judging by your posts you think you're a tough macho man, hmm? oooh, you said pussy, nice. NOW in respect you. NOT.
Soldiers spitted on hippies? now that sounds about right.... seems like something people would do who get off on killing innocent people and throwing puppies off cliffs.
in the end, its the soldier who chooses to pull the trigger. its the soldier who chooses not to resist.
XBloodyNailPolishX, I wish you could have been there, you would know we didn't have a choice, your saying we did doesn't change that. While I appreciate Jointman69's sticking up for the soldiers he missed the point of why we fought. Right or wrong we were (most of us) trying to protect everyone's right to say what ever they wanted. We believed in keeping America free, you can call us stupid or naive for that but we were sincere. There were some who only went to avoid going to prison for draft evasion. Some who left home for Canada. I support(ed) their decision to do that. But that wasn't for all of us. War is never a good thing, but sometimes its a necessary thing, some times SOMEONE has to fight. I would have fought to the death to protect your right to be wrong. ~Pray for Peace
oh thats nice. You want us all to die. So you AND your boyfriend like to kill people? obviously. that was a sick thing to say. Line up all you "america haters". you sound like such an uneducated redneck.
Wait a minute, wasn't it you that was talking about throwing puppys off a clif and some other very cool things you think vets do, you need to check yourself out. Peace
