i thought it was about respect or the lack of it!!!!!! correct me if im wrong???at least that is how it started i hope that peolpe learn from this .
.Quote = i respect all of our past " present" and future soldiers . just a couple of questions 1 so are you saying you respect those soldiers who tortured those prisoners in jail ? . 2 so you are going to respect future soldiers ? even if those soldiers and army are as evil as hitlers ?
hmm, i havent read all but i just want to say this; you always have a choice, if you chose to kill innocent people instead of going to jail, someone should tell you it's wrong
firstly whats an american hater? .....quote i wish they would line all you american haters in line and shoot you all . wow paperclipart gerbils sieg heil.
the issue of vietnam being vcorrect or not is obvious and off topic. same with the soldiers not avoiding the draft- its off topic. hippies spitting on soldiers returning from a very horrible war that fucked a lot of them up for life is hyprocritcal. you would think that hippies of all people would be kind to them, offer them a hug and a smile, and some food and drink. and you would think that hippies of all people would be smart enough not to blame the soldiers but to blame the government instead. its stupid and utterly depressing that this took place although i think it was a rare occurance. this is like spitting on the waitress when she tells you that the restaurant is out of pie. useless and ignorant. eternal respect to homebudz and all the other people who had similiar experienece. to miu and syntax: you have to realize that life isnt a black and white situation. you werent there so you cant definately say what you would have done because there might have been a lot of factors that go into it. you cant judge others peoples actions becuase everyone does the best they can do. things will never be as simple as "well i would never go bc i would prefer jail to killing innocent civilians." it is so much more complicated than that. and everyone that fights the wars is innocent even the soldiers of the opposing side so you shouldnt just focus on the civilian side of it. also you might try being more sensitive about expressing your opinions bc im sure than no one who served in vietnam is especially proud of it but they did the best they could do under the circumstances.
I'm new here but I'd like to say I agree with the cliche that is something like: don't try to judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. This has become more and more apparent to me as I continue to walk the miles of life. You should always try to respect and listen to, with an open mind, those who are older than you and have walked many more miles...
I was in the military at the end of the Vietnam War, but I have NO respect for any of us who supported the military-industrial-complex. If i'm going to respect anyone, it will be those like Mohamed Alli who gave up all they had, even his heavy-waight title, rather than join the suffering brought by our racist alien invasion. Fuck these whinning soldiers, it's the poor civilians who suffer the most in modern warfare. The military is the safest place to be in time of war. Where you can hide behind fields of fire, countless artilary tubes, gunships and napalm strikes. Civilians huddled in their little cracker-box homes are naked to our house busting fire-power. Support the Troops? Fuck that! Support the exposed and brutalized Civilians! Their the ones who need it! Their the ones who die like flies in war! But let's stop whinning about who got spit on. 'Cause all the spit in the world don't add up to shit in the ballance.
What bothers me is the cop-out bumper sticker:"war is not the answer". Although I DO agree with this point, it does NOTHING to help out the matter. It would, however be useful if it WOULD suggest a potential answer. Maybe if we actually came up with a good potential answer we could begin to convince the government of alternative actions against rulers who rule by killing and torturing those with different beliefs or who simply speak out and try to stand up for what they believe in. At least in our country we can do this without getting exterminated. So what is helpful about simply stating "war is not the answer"? I guess until someone convinces the government of a good alternative which proves to be effective it is the best "answer" that they can currently come up with. By-the-way do the people who display this quote even know what the problem/question really is? Is the problem the evil dictators who kill and torture so that the citizens live in fear, or is the problem that our country tries to butt in and involves itself in foreign affairs? I am not trying to a pain in the butt here, but I am really interested in what opinions people have on this. Please share...
An interesting view of the "spitting on Vet's Returning Home" phenomenon. Please don't knee jerk, memory often fails. These reports may make some sense. Sources: Interview with veterans for the documentary, Citizen Soldiers: The Story of the VVAW. The Spitting Image: Jerry Lembcke An interesting view, to say the least. And food for thought.
i remember the war vets supporting the Nam vets.I believe this too is a myth. Not to say neither happened, but if such incidences occured there were very few.I did spit at a cop once and i probably did deserve to get the shit beat out of me,but thats a different story.
And I had already posted that I had a friend of mine that spat on some also. I guess he thought because we protested together I would go along with that behavior. It wasn't a myth but it did happen occationally and randomly. I guess the myth is a myth or we are all just trippin'. Hard to prove something that happened sporadically and randomly and behavior few people will admit to doing.
i see both sides as being "correct",true stories are blown out of proportion especially when those telling the story have emotional ties.
