i think this is exciting. i was expecting this, and i was never into Einstein much either. he stole some of his research from another scientist whose name i can't remember.

but i don't think time travel will ever be a reality. at least not in the way the mass media portrays it. people tend to hold a faulty presumption that the past still physically 'exists' 'somewhere' and with sufficient technology you can 'travel' to that 'place' and witness or even participate in that past. complete false logic. past is gone. and future is not yet in existence. you can't travel into the past because every breath you take is into your future. so even if theoretically it becomes possible to travel 'into' the past, you will be doing it in your future not past. fascinating huh.

    Yes.

    Everything is a lie.

They do it so you can get all worked up about it.

Apparently this is proof for time travel. :D

What I wanna know is .... WHO THE FUCK DID SHE CALL??

As I understand it,the closer to the speed of light a body travels, the slower time passes.....so to exceed the s.o.l. surely means exactly the OPPOSITE of travelling through time;that everything ELSE will continue into the future at it's 'slower-than-light-speed' [ergo, travel through time] while you remain in a sort of time-stasis?

Einstein or any one else didnt say time travel was impossible.

Time doesnt actually exist anyway, its just a measurement, a perception, its not a tangible thing

Just as Pressure isnt a tangible thing, its just the sum total of forces between molecules

Same maybe for gravity, once someone works out what dark matter/anti matter actually is

They still dont really understand neutrinos yet, so working out why they travel faster than light is the step after that

Someone said something about our monkey brains. The speed at which any biological brain can work at is in the end bound by the size and speed of the electron. Quantum computing bound by the size and speed of subatomic particles

So all probably comes down to Moore's law in the end, we would need that C in E=MC^2 to get close to infinity, so we can build something to work all this shit out fast enough, and unlikley we'll have enough time before we all blow ourselves to kingdom come, or even before all protons decay and the universe ends.

So we dont have enough time....even though time doesnt actually exist ;)

I just hope these faster than light nintendos lead up to a Warp Drive.

According to Star Trek, space is full of hot/easy babes! :drool5:

If the neutrinos were traveling above the speed of light the whole time, it doesn't break any laws. The law says: A particle or wave (both are the same in quantum theory anyways) cannot go from having a velocity over the speed of light to having a velocity less than the speed of light and vice-versa. Basically, you cannot CROSS the speed of light but you must remain above it or below it for eternity.

News about this is a little sensationalistic. It's not going to "blow Einsteins theories out of the water". We know different frequencies of energy propagate through mediums at slightly different rates. So this might change the known fastest possible speed of energy by .002%, it's not a game changer. Someone from the project was quoted as saying their readings are "accurate with some uncertainty"... wtf does that even mean!?

my comment is not to be a nasty person. I want to know is this going to stop wars or clean the enviroment or something important ? So something can go faster than light but what does that mean to people like us ?

That is completely false and shows that you are a bull-shitter. Stop making up stuff.

By the way, I believe that no one else will be able to reproduce this experiment and it will turn out to be a mistake. Time travel is impossible. The speed of light is constant and nothing can go faster.

Re #37: I am not sure of myself. Just a hunch. I do have a degree in physics. Until it can be re-created by other researchers, it will not be accepted science.
