Iunno, there's a lot of underground rappers out there, and definitely a lot more good ones than in the mainstream (which has like three), but I've heard quite a lot of underground 'artists' that basically mimic the mainstream...
It's really hard to judge the underground in general, cause there's just so many.

I think've heard some C-Mob before, but I never really liked any (or I just know his name), but either way this song is awesome. I don't dig rap about gangs or violence too much, but good stuff is good, and I love when they still show the dirty side to violence, rather than just glorify it.

I obviously dont listen to music i dont think is good? Im talking about ALL of rap artists, not just the ones I listen too. Or else id obviously think all rappers are good If I only went with the ones i listened to. Im sure you know a couple underground artists from your area that you think is good and I dont know about them. You have posted songs you thought were the shit and I personally didnt care for them. I like my artists better. But then again, were not the same person.

Even rappers argue about if there is a difference between rap and hip-hop though (I mean, I agree with you, but it's not universally known, so I don't agree with the tone as much)
Quote from the great Del Tha Funkee Homosapien "Fuck this is rap and this is hip-hop it came from the same place"

I agree, to an extent, but some people would suggest rap is a subgroup of hiphop.

That last video I posted was straight up murder music though. haha

IMO, hip-hop is club/party music. I wouldn't consider gangter rap and devil shyt to be hip-hop.

This, for example, is "devil shyt" and I wouldn't consider it to be hip-hop:

There's tons of "gangsta" hip-hop these days, though, so I wouldn't agree with that part.

But yeah - hip-hop is the pop of rap. A band like Nickleback may be considered Rock by Billboard, but we all know what it really is.
A person like Kanye West or Kid Cudi may be considered rap by the critics, but it's total hip-hop.

That's true, but I'm talking about the grittiest forms of gangster rap. The type of music that talks about chopping up bodies and whatnot. haha I wouldn't consider that shit to be anywhere near hip-hop. Listen to the song "monster" I posted a few posts back and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I dont know, to be honest I dont think just because he uses a dark type of raping it should be called rap over hip hop. I mean theirs alot of different rapping styles, from Techn9ne to 2pac, to VALTIEL. Its ALL RAP.

But I call everything rap( between rap or Hip Hop, except for mainstream rap like 50 cent and shit.

    "Hip-Hop" even includes most of today's R&B, so "hip-hop" isn't necessarily rap.

hiphop is a culture as much as a music style

hiphop music vs rap is pretty general and really not a good way of discussing genres of hiphop.

typically areas of the states give a different feel, not that way too much anymore, but clearly a west coast feel stemming from gangster rap, g funk. and there is a raw, dirty, urban hiphop from the east coast. southern rap is typically more about cars, bitches, chains and shit, louder beats, a lot of club banger shit.

obviously there are artists that transcend any general sound from areas and a style can crop up in various places simultaneously

theres really no names for different types of hiphop, it isn't too well defined. also hiphop is easily the youngest genre of music right now. there is constant change in HOW the music is made and creating a whole new sound. manufacturers like akai making different MPC models is like introducing a whole new functionality of a guitar. this happens fairly often and producers are learning new ways of making music.

in the same way the way an MC responds to the beats are constantly changing as well, always offering somethin different

Crooks - tech, tupac, and valtiel are all RAPPERS as well - their music is all similar on some levels

    Bullshit.
Techno is younger by a decade.

But I do agree that divisions of hip-hop/rap are far less clear than any other genre. Including if hip-hop is a subgenre or the genre =P
But that's why we have to argue about it until it is clear =D

thats true about techno, but who the hell listens to that anyways? :p

determining which is which will probably be how and what people listen to.
if you listen to more rap oriented music 'hiphop' = rap
if you listen to hiphop, 'hiphp' = hiphop

hiphop is also considered to be sometimes "oldschool", but a lot of it is just that hiphop is underground

Old school rap/hip hop is actually probably better than using "rap" for non-mainstream-y stuff.
    I should do that more.
