So What's The Deal With The Confederate Flag Anyway?

To me it symbolizes resistance to centralized and overbearing gov't. But I do understand the perception many have of the flag, it has really been tainted by groups like the kkk.

I just feel like the overall attitude about it is different in the south, it's GENERALLY not viewed as something divisive. For example there's a black bouncer at a local music venue near me who has been wearing confederate flag baseball hats for years. And nobody thinks anything of it.

 

That flag represents the treasonous act of a group of people who felt owning slaves was a god given right. Any other meaning anyone wants to attribute to it is just delusional tripe.

The swastika meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It is not a universal symbol to identify with the people as a whole or a structure with one singular meaning. To cultures up north, it only represented the sun in particular circumstances.

 

It wasn't, but it is now, and what it represents is pure evil.

Police in Douglasville, Georgia, were investigating an incident that occurred Saturday where a group of trucks, each bearing Confederate flags, drove by the birthday party of a black child. The trucks’ passengers were reportedly armed and using racial epithets.

The Douglasville Police Department said in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that it had been alerted to the trucks and that its officers initially followed them but eventually stopped. Later, the police were called to an area where an argument between members of the convoy and those of the birthday party had grown heated. Police said it was examining the video footage for possible criminal activity.

“This is a child’s birthday party,” a female voice can be heard calling in the footage as the trucks rolled by. Another female voice cried, “That is a threat!” One woman appeared to be furious, screaming unintelligibly and stomping her feet at one point.

The video showed at least four trucks, each bearing multiple Confederate flags and American flags. Much of the audio is unclear, but in one of the videos, the N-word is audible, and one woman said that the passengers had threatened to “kill y’all [N-word]”,

NC was a reluctant participant, leaving the union only after SC and VA did so, not wanting to be at war with our two closest neighbors. Bad situation. NC lost more men and money in the war than any other Southern state, and had the least to gain from a CSA victory. We never had an extensive plantation system.

Group of people? It was so much worse than that. Multiple states, with democratically elected governments. It's hard to avoid understating the magnitude of it.

Why would all other black Americans be required to agree with that one individual? He's nobody special.

Once again, in the south that flag is generally not viewed as a racist symbol, by white or black.

It might come as a surprise to some of you that any given thing can carry different meanings to different people..

I agree with Mel in that flying the thing out the backs of trucks and what not is too classless for me to want to do. But I don't care if other people do.

The main demographic opposed to the flag down in the south seems to be the left leaning whites, who think that taking strong opposition to it makes them seem modern and progressive. They usually say things to the point that it's almost like they're ashamed of being southern and white.

 

It's funny how you just described an entire generation (not just the black kids) and only manage to pick up that black kids, or "youth niggers" as you so lovingly put it, are doing it. Even if it is more black kids in YOUR neighbourhood or whatever. That's some hard core racism right there. Have you ever looked at the socioeconomic reasons these kids act like this? Have you ever looked at youth culture in other areas than your own, because kids of all colours act the way you describe now. I doubt it somehow....
