I doubt how long your engaged matters, longer engagement while living together would be good for the relationship considering you'd know what you were getting into!

nah from what I understand that's about right. I guess it's just nicer to not keep people waiting, haha. My mother always says 6 months, max. but then again... when have I ever cared what she says

from what i understand, it generally takes 1 to 2 months to realize you are pregnant. that leaves about 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 months to get hitched.

The long engagement is because we decided to give ourselves plenty of time to buy all the things we could in advance while not going into debt, and I'm so far ahead as ALL of my family is in england and depending on your job (such as my aunt, who works with troubled children) you may need quite awhile to find someone who has enough training to cover you while you're gone.

It's going to be just a back yard bbq after for the reception, we're getting married in our backyard, but as my house is currently on the market we dont know where that backyard will be or I'd have deposits down already. As for the honeymoon, Shaun wants to go to Mexico, and I want to go to Italy. He'll probably win due to cost restraints.

The guest list is 72 people, over half that is just family. The reason why I don't think we can keep it under $5000 is we have yet to get the suits (and there will be 4-6) and then theres the tent rental which includes chairs, tables, dance floor, cutlery, glasswear, plates, tent sides, lighting and so forth which is over $2500 before tax. Then theres flowers, which is just for the wedding party, no center pieces.

I don't think theres anything wrong with buying things ahead, I bought plenty now because I was looking and I had the time to get the things I want on sale. We got the rings too and it was $400 for two rings, and Shauns is trigold. It was a sale that lasted one weekend, sure there would be another closer to my day but so much money leaves your hand around the 6 month to go point that it would end up on my visa, and I'm not doin' that.

Oh, and as for the engagement, the standard time is like 12-8 months. I've already been engaged for over a year, so yeah I'm keepin' people waiting....the orginal plan was for a 5 year engagement, but I pushed it forwards.

Man, my wedding is going to be soooo cheap. Luckily the state of Texas recognizes common law marriage, so we're not even getting a real preacher. We're just going to have a ceremony in Daniel's parents' yard and then have a potluck at the town community center across the street, because it's just $50 a night, and what better place to have a reception than right across the street??? :D I've found plenty of dresses I like, but I'm trying to keep this thing super super thrifty. As far as favors go, I'll probably get some goofy Wal-Mart party favors for the guests, OR Hershey's kisses with personalized little papers, or Hershey's mini candy bars with personalized wrappers, and those awesome bubbles you can get that don't pop as easily as normal bubbles. For our wedding party, though, I'm thinking about getting personalized M&M's or personalized Jones Cream Sodas. I wanted to have my bridesmaids in lavender dresses, and apparently the maids are supposed to pay for their own dresses, but if I can't pay for their dresses, then they can wear whatever they want. My best friend's mom will probably be my maid of honor, if she can come. I'm waiting to spring that on her, but I know she'll be really happy to know I want her to stand in for her daughter. :) I don't know who else I'll have in my wedding party, though... But yeah, we don't have a year picked out yet.

 Yeah...I'm totally a girl about wedding planning, too.

ugh, our wedding will probably end up being stupid expensive, far more than i want to pay anyway. my fiance has a huuuge family, and i want to reduce the stress by having it at a hotel (food and tables and stuff all done by them, no organizing the caterers vs the hall people vs the decorators). i dont want more than like 110 people at the wedding, but the list is already at 178 people after my dude and his mom added to it :(

were buying a house first too, so spare money is going to be fun to come by

I'm okay with getting married but big wedding ceremonies sound horrifying.
