Unfortunately, one of those unhealthy adults is me. DAMN YOU CORPORATE WORLD!!! (Actually, my parents were just poor)

Which brings me to another point:
Why the hell is greasy, unhealthy, packaged lard the cheapest thing out there?
This is ri-goddamn-diculous. And chicken nuggets are 99 cents.

No, no Skip, they'll have them even before that...They're going to pay for all of your prenatal care too! ;) Even set up a college fund for the little rascal.

This is utterly ridiculous, but hey, if facebook can take over the internet literally overnight, I'm sure one corporation can take over everything else.

it makes no sense to me that food thats been processed or thats been produced with the help of chemicals, pesticides, growth hormones, etc etc and been shipped hundreds of miles across the country is cheaper than food thats grown or raised locally without the use of chemicals and growth hormones, processing plants, etc.... (presumably those things cost money??) ...how does this make sense? does this make sense to anyone else?

I get plenty of cereals from the food bank cause 1/2 the regular people dont want them.. ., "FUCK NO TOTAL CEREAL ARE YOU KIDDING IM NOT EATING THAT SHIT!!!! "
tbh, I get at least 4 boxes and then someone else gives me theirs..

then I buy a cereal at the savealot which is only $2.00, i basically live on this one alone.. Kiggins™ Healthy Measures Toasted Rice Cereal, 12oz, I consume one box: every 12hrs. actually part of my diet plan atop other foods i eat..
oh, i call cereal "the matrix food"..
I eat cereal all day long.. :mickey:

Because those corporations are buying out the local guys. It's a whole lot easier to pay x amt to one man have all of his customers for a life time. Presumably.

it doesnt make sense because subsidies have been grossly perverted. subsidies could be helpful, but instead they exacerbate the problem. it would be better if everyone in your neighborhood picked a few veggies to grow, and then traded with each other. or bakes bread and trades it, or cereal, or canned food, etc. one of those "think global act local' things.

its the only way to remove the power from the corporations, and i think people will fight back when the gov. tries to prevent them from growing food in their backyards.
on the other hand, the big farmers will lose many of their jobs. in order to compete they had no choice but to mono-crop, to use pesticides and gmos to stay afloat. many could not run a poly-culture farm.

    Cap'n Crunch with Crunch Berries!!!!!!!

Now, try making that in your kitchen, MotherLove. I don't even think PorkStock could make it in his lab.

i dont like most of the high-dye cereals. i had it trained out of me as a kid, was not permitted captain crunch, except peanut butter. i like raisin bran and cheerios. and frosted flakes and puffed rice. so for me its no loss, however....

you could substitute the dye and flavoring by using homemade syrup (say, raspberry, or blueberry) in your cereal base. so probably a sugar cookie type of base. roll into thin snakes, and cut into berries. youd have to play around with flavors, but i bet theyd be really good.

I remember one time, when I lived in Maryland. me and my sister got done smoking and we decide to jump in the pool and my step dad came out and said you guys it's lighting out, we were like ohh shit, so I got out of the pool and I dropped my pot on the ground and looked right at it, and I started laughing, and my sister hurried up and threw a towel over my stash, and before all that my step dad said. what you do smoke 2 joints? and I said naw man, then I said this is going to sound really bad but I'm going to go eat some golden grahams.

Well atleast he didn't get mad? I wish my mom would have been that calm when shes caught me smoking pot.

I keep on wandering what i am going to do when she does visit...?
Do i just drop the pot and smoke behind her back or not smoke at all?
Or since its my place do i just light up when i want?

I wouldn't smoke at all, I know it's your place, but if you light up she might get pissed and then comes a big fight

It's simple, there's demand for every other part of the Pig, and Lard is the least in the demand, so the price is lowest.

Lard used to be used in so many things, but with several health crazes over the past 40 or so years, ppl avoid lard because it's so bad for you.

Realize for every pig there's a lot of lard, more than can be consumed by Americans. So much extra is produced and given to the Gov't. The US gov't gets so many tons of lard that it gives away for free. That drives down the retail price of lard.

Of course it makes no sense. But the scale of production reduces the costs enough for products to compete with local products. One person or family cannot produce their own food as cheaply as a factory farm can produce it for them.

However, there's a huge difference in the quality of the end product if you grow organically. Also if you use the traditional farming techniques, you might actually be able to grow most of what you need for free! If you have your own seeds from a prior harvest and create your own fertilizer/compost, there's nothing really you need to buy unless you have to pay for water.

And of course what happens in winter? You're not going to get fresh veggies unless you have a greenhouse, so they must be grown elsewhere and shipped in. And what about ppl who live in cities. How much can they grow?
