I've heard the same from a few people who have been there.

I can also personally recommend Vancouver. If you are a runner, you have to check out Stanley Island. One of the most scenic runs (about 10K) in the world, if I dare say.

    Stanley Park

Vancouver is a great place to visit, and if you can make some "friends" while there, the reefer scene is amazing!

It's been awhile but Stanley Park was a great place to trapse away a few hours whilst stoned out of our gourds.

There are a lot of Americans who retire there, so I would assume that there is some military present, possibly USA. Many of the countries that border CR have guerilla armies and/or are in some type of conflict, so CR needs some type of defense. Costa Rica is probably the most stable Latin American country.

    Sorry, off topic again.

I was told that tourists were treated with respect there / not looked down on and also that the exchange rate is amazing! Also excellent white water rafting through rain forests :)

Except for insects, I'd absolutely love to white water raft there!

The city is also known for legal prostitution, where the customers can go window shopping, as every lady/guy shows off their stuff.

if your talking about amsterdam then, duh........
If your talking about Costa Rica like we are, then I just learned something new. In that vain, let me also add that Rio is the prostitution capital of the world!

Id love to go to Rio (not because of the prostitution, obviously) but im too scared. All i hear is stories about how you shouldnt just walk around there at night, shootings etc.

yeah i have no interest in the prostitution either, but have you ever seen the movie City of God? Its about the slums of rio and the gangs of children found there. Excellent movie!!

I cant stand prostitution, i mean im glad that there's so much freedom that you can basically do whatever, but it really just saddens me. Whenever i walk around there and see those women, and then the faces of those guys looking at them like that. Ugh, it just makes me shiver and feel sorry for them. For both the women and the men.

I havent seen it, but have heard the title before. Sounds interesting, ill see if i can find it sometime :)

Another great movie dealing with poverty and prositution is

    Born Into Brothels

An inspiring, yet sad look into the scene of Calcutta, India. The film actually has something to do with Amsterdam, in a good way. Don't wanna ruin it for anyone though.

    Highly Recommended!
