Haha I've been single for every Valetine's Day except one. I hated having a boyfriend on that day. Being single on Valentine's Day is so much more fun.
I got candy for my sons, and we're making valentines for their classes at school. I got valentine pencils and a big sheet of red bristol board, We're cutting out heart shapes and putting the pencils through them like arrows... I'm also planning to make heart shaped pizza for dinner and baking a heart shaped cake. It will be fun. If you don't enjoy a holiday, don't celebrate it. I don't celebrate Hanukkah, but I don't go around hating it and trying to put a stop to it.
it's the saint part that gets me, but why hate? (if you can't make a demon out of it, make it a saint, if you can't make it a saint paint it green so it won't rust) every day out of routine is good, whatever the name or excuse. except i've been so far out of any routine for so long none of that really affects me personally except when stores are closed or public transit doesn't run. =^^= .../\...
Alright, now I'm gonna rant, so back up a bit. Valentine's day is a day where the makers of chocolates, bears, cell phones, food, and absolutely everything else prey on people and force down their throats the idea that the only way to show your love is to buy your partner the most things and the most expensive things. So now, when children see their parents, teachers, relatives, and mail men doing this, it gives them that idea for life and the cycle of materialism continues. Furthermore, through this materialistic ideal, the concept of "love" becomes skewed, making it into a material thing, or rather material things. Plus, shouldn't we celebrate it by cutting a convicts head off? That's how the first one went down, and it seemed like a helluva shindig! Done now.
you forgot to mention christermass having become almost the same thing. midwinter's eve, yule, and then bailtane (pre-vernal equanox 1/8th point of the year), are prefictly valid days to celibrate. christerism just ursurped them because a population it wanted to claim and compromise already were by other names. and perhapse i should be more clear so as to avoid an overly sweeping apperant condemnation, so i'm refering to certain militant institutions wich identified themsleves with that outpouring. at any rate, the circular illogic of little green pieces of paper will exploit whatever it can or will, nothing being to mellow in its intentions for it to do so. so valintine was someone who got their head cut off, i hadn't really been awaire of that or thought about it, but like other so called christian holy days, there were ancient predicessors. cupid is of course eros, brother of aphrodite in the greek, which the romans attempted to map onto every other polytheism before they started calling themselves christians. and i'm not calling everything about christianity evil, just the collective ego of christothemicness, with its arrogant superiority complex. =^^= .../\...
I don't mind Valentine's day, though it does bring back some sad memories about someone. But I think this year it's gonna be very special as I have a feeling my boyfriend will propose to me then. A wee bit cheesy but hey... I like cheese.
i like valentines day. not because its all consumerist, but its cute to have a day dedicated to your SO. in the past, when ive been single, my friends and i have organized events too so it doubles as an excuse to hang out with friends (food parties with booze and chocolate fondues and spring rolls and all sorts of crazy delicious stuff) i think its cute. i think a lot of peopel can go overboard with it. my bf and i are probably stayiing in and he said he watned to cook me supper, which is awesome. and he wants to buy me flowers, i told him things other than roses are awesome too (since roses like double in price around vday)
I voted "I do." I almost never have a girlfriend during valentine's for a reason. But I also have mixed feelings about sucking up to a girl if I did. I must have a few things to learn./
Valentines day is the sort of "pointless" holiday that everyday should be No holiday has to be about $... if a girl was upset about me not getting her something for valentines day its time to move on, she did I did, although not so literally When things become about $... greed envy and false compassion come in, no matter the real purpose... thats what needs to die about holidays, not the holidays themselves.
Feb 14th is my wifes birthday. I don't care about the holiday, but if you kill the day, she won't have a birthday anymore. That means that she won't get any older, and I will grow old alone. How sucky would that be?
