Agreed. But sometimes fighting fire with fire works. We've been called ignorant, lazy, "snowflakes", vain, entitled, PC (as if that's a bad thing)the Tide pod generation, and a million other derogatory things. The fact that verbally abusing an entire generation becomes a problem only when we stand up for ourselves really just further highlights the elitist attitude we perceive in boomers in the 1st place. I'm not saying it's right, but there it is.

You missed the part where I never said I was fine doing it :) But that doesn't mean I can't justify and understand why people say it

  6. I just don't get why you would want to even pick on peoples elderly parents who were baby boomers and born in the 1940's.
Respect your elders and stop harassing others.

This one time, Suzanne called me racist for saying that the bail system in Australia seemed to be similar to the one in the US.

Again, where is the disrespect and harrassment? And what would you call what you're doing to me?

  18. Folks, this is getting stupid. Assigning nicknames is fine in close company. But using it to jab a whole group of people who lived daily under the threat of nuclear annihilation is asinine. I knew that when this "Ok Boomer" shit popped up on Tw!tter (I do not advertise for those big corporation assholes). Christ, you're talking about people who had to deal with their shell-shocked fathers (the ones who had fathers survive), then getting drafted to Korea, then getting drafted to Vietnam. A generation fed into a government meat grinder facilitated by every kind of business; weapons makers, vehicle makers, uniform makers, food makers, bandage makers and coffin makers. Everybody made a buck on the Boomers hides.

33,000 of them in Korea, 58,000 in Vietnam, mostly ill-trained draftees and convicts. I served with guys who chose the military over prison, most were problems the whole time. Also, the "Boomers" were used by the government to accelerate social landmarks at breakneck speed (really about 45 mph, the average speed of a Bluebird school bus). What a charmed life we pampered "Boomers" were in those sun-beaten, non-air conditioned trucks, with seats and a roof. To this day they still don't have seat belts. A big Fuck You to the future generations from those who bring about safety regulations.

Another Boomer thing that came kind of late in the generation was concern for the environment (we called it Ecology). Granted, we were told an ice age was on the way, we still wanted to see the pollution abated. There's nothing like riding your bike around a pond full of dead floating fish because some assholes dumped a truckload of waste oil into it during the night. That kind of shit used to be common. I've personally cleaned creeks and estuaries, there's just that smell of a tire that's full of rotted marine creatures as you pull it from the muck.

Then there's that other Boomer thing, intense music with amazing range. But I'm really not the authority on that, all I can play is a stereo. I play it well though!

One thing you can't envy the Boomers for is the way they have suffered illnesses. Thanks to their pain and death medicine has advanced more in a generation than it did in a century or more before. It's much faster now of course. Unfortunately for "The Greatest Generation" many of the medical advances were wrought from Nazi experimentation. Today of course we see people losing their shit over "pronouns".

And that brings me to romance. It went through a LOT of adjusting during the Boomer years. Birth control became far more reliable and enabled women to hit the job market in a big way. By the 70s men actually knew that women have orgasms and many learned how to bring them about! Then came Disco (which rescued my teenage sex life). There I think some things are still quite common. There's just nothing like dancing with someone all night. Disco was very close, lots of holding each other in motion. Or maybe it's just a Boomer thing.

By the way my wife is 12 years younger, firmly in the Gen X zone (and still listens to Duran Duran). Our daughter is a turn of the century baby, January 1, 2000. Can you possibly imagine the clash potential? Only, it's not there. Because we all respect each other. We don't call each other derisive names. It can be tenuous, sure, but then, so is my relationship with so much of Hip Forums. Still, I respect everyone here who isn't a gratuitous asshole (really, what's the point of that).

Maybe that's just the 60s and 70s rushing out of me. But really folks, being cool is not as much effort as being an asshole in the long run. And that goes back to Plato!

Besides, you may meet the love of your life here.

  19. How about you adding me to your already lengthy ignore list and stop being so immature
