I really want to give up smoking. Any suggestions for a 20 a day addict who wants to kill random strangers when he has no ciggies.

    cool :)

here's how you beat it, lock yourself up in a room with a chick for however long it takes, whenever you feel like having a smoke, or beating up strangers because you're not smoking...have sex.

    problem solved

If you really want to quit smoking you will need a change of environment. Take a week off and go somewhere else... where you cannot associate stuff with smoking. Also, make sure not to drink or do drugs during that time. Constantly keep yourself busy... start some kind of a project that really interests you... and don't stop.

Quitting isn't really that hard. It's not starting again that's extremely difficult.

With your help, I could pull this one off, me thinks. Hopefully it would take at least a year to get over the addiction.

Yeah. I'm thinking of going to a local temple for a few days. They take all of your possesions from you, shave your head, feed you once a day and wake you up at 3am to sweep up leaves.
Only thing is I'm afraid of going to prison for losing it and causing a buddist bloodbath.

Actually, now I've written this, the temple life sounds a lot like prison.:)

I really think that you should do it. It will not only be good for you, but it will also be a fascinating experience and a true test of character.

It's always fun to challange oneself.

I probably will go to the temple but I'm not sure if it will help on the smoking front.

i spent 5 days not smoking in hospital this year after a motorcycle wreck and I lit up a cigarette on the doorstep as I was discharged.

Out of curiosity... what's your main reason for quitting?

    I've got so many.
This year, I've realised I've smoked for over half my life. I hate not being able to quit. It's the challenge. I want to do it, mainly, to prove I can.

I hate the smokers' cough i've developed. It smells bad to others. It doesn't make me feel good(unlike other vices like drink, drugs and women).

Yeah, that's enough of a reason there mate.

You go for it, but you need to really set your mind on wanting to quit. You won't quit unless you have your heart set on it. You do seem determined though... good.

I know that I won't quit unless I either start coughing up blood or find a girl who's worth quitting for.

I've always found anti-smokers kinda irritating.

I don't like smoke in my face, and I don't let people smoke in my house, but I don't really feel the need to make a scene out of it. Some people get crazy freaking power trips out of it.

Unfortunately, when I do quit smoking I see myself becoming an anti-smoking Hitler. Not that I don't think peole should do what they want but just because I'll be way too tempted.
