i think recreationally, we have a resounding no, but as medical MJ, we have a be careful. I think the minute you think "I'm keeping this baby" (through birth) you made the decision to stop partying. If you need one small toke for pain and NOTHING else works, ever, then proceed with caution. and never take a kid to McD's as disperse said...
I'm taking a childbirth class at the hospital where I will be delivering, and today we discussed all the different options for drugs and pain relief during labor. The list of side effects and possible harm each one could cause the baby is pretty extensive for every option. There isn't one drug they give you that doesn't somehow effect the baby negatively. It makes me mad that you can't choose to use a little marijuana for pain. If you did you'd lose the baby. It just doesnt make any sense to me.
I feel that if you have major morning sickness, pain, or extreme stress that could potentially hurt your babe-marijuana (in extreme moderation) is fine. Bong-ripping all day long just for fun is not ok. You can ingest and vaporize if you want to avoid the actual smoke. Basically, if the benefits outweigh the risks IMO it is ok. I feel pot is much safer than any RX drug on the market that is indicated for use while pregnant. Keep in mind that if you deliver in a hospital, you and the baby might be tested (without consent) for drugs. If either of you test positive, CPS will be called and you will be in the middle of a shitstorm. This happened to one of my friends. She smoked because of severe all-day sickness and when she delivered both she and the baby were tested. She had to go to court, childcare classes, do community service and was not allowed to be with her son unless there was a court appointed guardian present.
"my mom smoked with me. i'm really smart(not to sound consided) just needed to make a point i dont think it really matters. i heard it helps with morning sickness go to Mother.com/discussions they could probably help you out article wise better" It's spelled.. conceited.. sorry.
If you would even consider using possibly harmful drugs while pregnant, you shouldn't be allowed to be a parent.
Assuming that marijuana is harmful is very misinformed. Marijuana can be a more powerful anti-nausea medication than almost any pharmaceutical anti-nausea on market. And if vaporized or eaten, or even drank in a tea, it's not harmful! Please, before you bash a person for their personal choices, inform yourself!

You may cause your baby to be deformed. Have you not done proper research. Don't try and tell me diferent . I'm taking a child development class and i know lots of facts so if you can tell me how what when where and how and not the net shit then dish it.. " oh its so right, i'm vomiting shit" " what are you going to do when they vomit? give them weed at 2?
i know theres a correlation with a slightly smaller birth weight best just not to risk it. its 9 months for you and the rest of your life for your baby
I'm not saying give your sick child weed at 2! And I wouldn't use marijuana as the first go-to in treating nausea in pregnancy. However, hyperemesis is a real condition where left untreated, or not properly controlled, a woman can experience kidney failure and DIE. Most pharmaceutical anti-nausea meds don't work near as well as marijuana, and if they do work well, they are expensive and not-so-safe for the foetus. I'm saying: If ginger tea, peppermint, eating small meals throughout the day, and other remedies don't work, and you don't feel comfortable taking some pharma anti-nausea, marijuana is a good alternative if eaten or drank in a tea. I WOULD NEVER give my daughter marijuana. And I wouldn't smoke it recreationally in pregnancy, but if my adult daughter were experiencing nausea so bad that she couldn't eat or drink anything and her health was in grave danger, I'd advise her to try marijuana before anything drastic.
HippieFreak, some people have such closed minds it's best to just ignor them. For those of you who want information, go back over these posts. There's a wealth of good info that covers all aspects of this plant. Kathi
So I should trust the word of someone taking a "child development class", who is expected to memorize a bunch of outdated rhetoric? Are you actually ignorant enough to believe that cannabis can cause a baby to become deformed? You believe that someone who uses cannabis while pregnant should be charged with "attempted murder"?!? What about epidurals? What about using suction devices? What about innoculations? What about pregnant women who own cats? WHO ARE YOU TO ESPOUSE THAT KIND OF RIDICULOUS FLAWED LOGIC?? If you expect any type of respect, if you expect for anyone to take you the least bit seriously, at least have some concrete sources to back up your ranting, otherwise don't bother posting. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=749e9fc9-e581-4acd-9ee0-fcef72bc0825 http://www.channels.nl/knowledge/27992.html http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/birth_preparation/marijuana.html http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/medical/can-babies.htm
The amount of intrusion into people's private lives by the government in this country has become absolutely appalling. There is not a country on earth that intrudes this much into what people do with their own bodies, their families, and their private lives in general. Every time I hear about, or experience this kind of treatment personally, it just strengthens my resolve to move somewhere else as soon as possible. And all the while that the treatment of its own citizens gets worse by the day, the Protestant, flag-waving hillbillies that run this country keep perpetuating this ridiculous myth that this is the 'freest country on earth', when the fact is that it's becoming one of the most fascist, puritanical places in the 'developed' world (I'm becoming more skeptical by the day as to how 'developed' this place is anyway) . Pardon me while I puke. Now I'm the one that needs an anti-nauseant!
do i need say more or should i say your no hero either Rob ... So insert your foot.. I may come across as snooty snotty but i'm to the point. I'm not for it. Why your "i'll tattle tail on you shit" what you cannot talk civil... hmmmmm something wrong ??? Anyways get to know me before you judge a book by its cover i am a very nice person.
Toxoplasmosis has very well known and understood risks to the developing fetus. It has been linked to mental retardation, blindness, and hearing loss, miscarriage, and stillbirth. Knowing the risks, I have kept my cats around me, and even kept feeding the outdoor cats all throughout my pregnancy. I would hate to think that anyone would consider me a bad parent let alone an attempted murderer for my decision - and people are likely not to. However, some of those same people are going to have a knee-jerk reaction to marijuana use during pregnancy, which has NO link to such developmental defects as of yet. As far as miss social-services in training....it concerns me. Attempted murder for pot smoking? Someone who can turn a discussion about marijuana use to crack-babies, FAS babies, and deformations and medical conditions never having been linked to THC ingestion; someone who looks at a pot-smoker and sees a crackhead or a murder SHOULD NOT be making judgments on wether people are fit parents anytime in the future. Another typical uninformed overreacter to add to the ranks of government beaurcrats that are already oppressing society with their bullshit propaganda, if you ask me. I'd rather have a parent who smokes the occasional joint to a life growing up in foster homes any day. A child's parents being taken away is far greater risk to the welfare of a child than marijuana ingestion during pregnancy. Attempted murder for marijuana smoking is RIDICULOUS.
i don't think anyone is a bad parent Sera I just think imo that its JUST WRONG to smoke pot. And if you should smoke it you should smoke it after pregnancy or away from the baby in a diff house hold. A lot of people think differently. I did go overboard last night and i aploogize for that... Would i think differntly if i was done school no . if i was pregnant? No Thats just me. I was brought up in a closed environment and was sheltered, now that i enter the REAL world i see what can/can't happen i freak out. No one knows me to understand what i have been through... Same ans me .. I haven't seen what everyone else has been through... Cheers!!T
Poem~Girl, Alot of so called "common knowledge" including what government agencies tell you, the AMA, ACP, AAP, and what is in your books (and virtually any mainstream book) is all based on the same couple OUTDATED studies, no matter how recently a book was published, fact is (in the USA and UK at least) their have been no recent studies into this, and the old ones that most doctors/agencies/and yes even students like you, take as FACT we're grossly manipulated by researchers to appease the current ideology and funding qualifications of that time. If you were raised in a Christian home, I can see how and why you would be filled with such outrage and anger at the very mention of "drugs" (cannabis is NOT a drug, it is an herb) used during pregnancy, and you like MANY MANY other misinformed people, lump cannabis in with alcohol and drugs, this is not your fault by any means as you have most likely been indoctrinated since birth into that flawed ideology. I don't think anybody here (including me) is saying that cannabis is a completely harmless, risk free thing to do during pregnancy, it is irrefutable common knowledge that ANY type of smoke inhalation during pregnancy starves the fetus of oxygen, and if their *IS* a correlation between cannabis use during pregnancy and low birth rates (I do believe this is likely, however I see this argument constantly but have yet to see a concrete study) it is probably due to poor oxygen intake in the fetus during particularly imperative and taxing times of growth. This is why *IF* you do choose to use cannabis as a medicine while pregnant, it is best *NOT* to smoke it, and only to consume it via ingestion. Nobody expects you to change your beliefs, but if you would like to see a different perspective check out the links I offered earlier, they are fairly recent studies. I see that you are very passionate about what you believe in and I respect that, I can identify completely with not wanting to subject children to potentially harmful substances, I am not only the father of two girls, I am also their primary caregiver. Do yourself a favor, research innoculations and the ingredients in them, you will be appalled, and then you can put that outrage to some damn good use!
