Well I could say the same thing about you. You made some assumptions about me that would make me less able to criticise slipknot constructionally, which just aren't true. You assumed that I don't play drums myself and that I never in my life have listened to slipknot. Both are wrong. I liked Slipknot for a while, back when Wait and Bleed first came out. In a modern, democratic society as the current western one likes to believe it is, you can set your own taboos as long as you stay within legal boundaries. And I think the reason that parents don't understand their lyrics is because most of them don't pretend to be depressed and misanthropic. And in my opinion, if Jesus used metaphors, everyone can. About the masks... what makes a face expressive is its ability to change its expression (I hope you see the correlation between these words) as emotions change. A mask, being an immobile object, can't. Consequently, a mask can never express the individual wearing it better than his or her face itself. I was really surprised that Satyr could choose Joey on drums on the US tour when Frost (one of the fastest and tightest drummers in the world, and yes he outclasses Joey on every front) couldn't enter the States. If he had to choose an American drummer, he could have picked Proscriptor from Absu or maybe even Derek Roddy from Hate Eternal, both could tear any opposition right apart, especially Derek. Well, Satyr is very avid to establishing the black metal scene in the US more prominently. So it might be a very good strategy to put a nu-metal icon behind the kit...
Joey Jordison is a passable drummer. Nowhere near the best drummer in the world by ANY means. I strongly suggest listening to Morbid Angel's "Drum Check". Pete Sandoval... is a good drummer. If you're a drummer yourself, you should know that Travis Barker gargles balls. A. He's a "punk" drummer - Punk drumbeats are inherently simplistic. B. He was the drummer of Blink 182. Enough said.
Oh mature, real mature. I hate people that can't argue reasonably. Everything you and anyone else has said in here is solely OPINION. [mytwocents]To be honest, Slipknot aren't all that musically talented. Their lyrics aren't that great, and most of the stuff I've heard is a mass of noise. The occaisional song has grown on me, granted. But then again, if you hear something enough you.. give up trying to fight it off.[/mytwocents] You're on a music forum. You should get used to the fact that people are going to disagree with you. If you don't like it, don't come here.
Princess, the members of slipknot are so worthless that I count each of them as 8/9th of a person I have better things to do than listen to a Slipknot album (or try to counter your immature homophobic rhetoric)
one of the worst bands ever. easily. easily. i didnt think anyone over 13 listened to them before reading this thread.
This made me laugh because hailtotheking knows more about metal then anyone i've ever met Actually he is pretty widely recognised as one of the top drummers in the world....
Princess you arent really helping the situation... calling someone a gay face isnt the best thing to say... I realize that not everyone is gonna like slipknot.. fine by me.. but if you listen to each song closely you can hear that it isnt just noise.. there is structure their songs and that if you pull out one part of it then it will not be the same.. OK.. now the whole thing with Joey.. he isnt the best drummer in the world.. hes good.. but not the best.. Vocals/Lyrics... Like i have said in previous posts get out of the lyrics what you will.. just because i am 20 years old doesnt mean that all the sudden my life is magicly better.. I listen to these lyrics and sing along and get out all of the shit and posion in my life that is holding me down.. i have had a very hard life and this helps me.... now the masks... Corey Taylor has said the reason they wear the masks is because they dont want you to see their face.. you have to figure out the music for yourself.. get out of it what you will and leave it at that.. They dont want to give anything away in the music by showing their face (emotions... what makes them happy may make you sad).. ok.. i cant think of anything else to talk about
I´ve started listening to Slipknot quite resently. First time I saw them was on Metallicas concert, they performed before Metallica. Second time was at one festival. I love that energy they have. And I really don´t care whether they have masks or not. And I know most of a people think it´s music for under 13 year olds. It´s music I like to listen to and it doesn´t make me "retarded". If you don´t listen to something you like based on other people´s opinions then.. who are you?
Hahaha! Yeah, that was the main part of her reply that made me think it was a parody at first. Accurately put! Aww, you made me blush! <3
worst live band i saw at a festivel, but they were still good. the main problems were that they played in day time, and it was so loud that you couldn't make out the singing. i don't want to start a flame war, so i'll just say that they're an OKAY band.
I don't know..I don't like them. However, there are a lot of people who like them ,I think they have their reasons.
I used to like them, but the more I listened to them the more I realized that the quality of their music was pretty shity. However Cory Taylor has a lovely voice, when he isn't screaming. I think that they are pretty good musicians, but the composure of their music is awful. They could be a good band if they changed their image. Like Manson they seem more like a "Stage Act." I am not a big fan of bands that have to make an "image," for themselves to sell.
One of the best live bands. Really get the crowd going. Anthemic music, no classy lyrics but hey I love that. I don't care about bands that sing about how bad life has been to them.
