I must agree with Fallenfairy, but I tend to overeat when its just food, so the Slimfast is a quik meal!

Did you know that Slimfast shakes and Ensure are pretty much the same thing? It's a meal replacement shake, so if you drink it, decide you're still hungry and eat some real food on the side (thinking perhaps that the magic weight loss ingredients in the shake will cancel the calories in the real food) you're actually overloading on food and calories. And you don't even get the benefit of all the vitamins and enzymes and stuff that's in real whole foods. I know this because my Grammy's doc told us to give her MRS's to help her gain weight and told us we could use Slimfast if they were cheaper than the Ensures.

Well, I have a different experience with these..

I have gastroparesis which comes and goes in varying effects. One day I can eat and be okay, and then for a week I can't. Basically gastropareisis means all the food I eat just sits in my upper tummy, and I don't digest it at a normal rate. Extremely uncomfortable and I constantly feel like I'm going to throw up.

So I started to drink those nutritional shakes since I can drink more comfortably than I can eat. I started out with just the Ensure type things, but I am uncomfortable with drinking nearly 300 calories. I wasn't doing it to lose weight, but drinking those left me little room to eat anything afterwards and I would rather do both than live strictly on fluids...

So I switched to the off brand of slim fast. I don't do it to lose weight, although I have lost weight. I don't know if it's because of the slim fast or the gastroparesis.... but I would say the slim fast didn't hurt.

I don't feel bad from it, but I don't have the hunger problem you speak of.. eatting hurts anyways.

The crappiest thing is it don't matter what I eat I still have gastroparesis. I was vegan before, and still am other than the shakes... but even eating whole foods.. veggies, fruits, grains.. I don't digest it. Infact I would probably digest nutrionally void food better (oils, fats) because of the lack of fiber. So shakes seem like a better option than that too.

I'm quite a bit better now though, thankfully. It comes and goes though.

Saying all that, I wouldn't do them to lose weight. If it was weight alone I would try a vegan diet and replace any sodas/etc with water. Even just drinking water instead of soda makes you lose weight. I haven't had a soda in years.

    Good luck
