thanks for the suggestion about the light, though the most frightening forms of SP , in my experience , happened in total darkness. I mean the "presence, buzz and scream" with false awakenings pattern (described in literature). That really gave me some hard times in the past.
On the other side, more vivid (and also more entertaining:) open-eye hallucinations tend to happen at dawn , when light filters in my bedroom, which matches with your explaination.

so you've found that when trying hard to get out of your hallucinations they become more vivid / last longer?
do you also have hypnopompic hallucinations ?

too many posts to read, so sorry.

I have experience SP all of my life. If you let yourself go and not become afraid you'll slip into an out of body experience, or with good practice and meditation you can wish yourself back to sleep (I'm usually too tired for OBE). I read a great book on the topic that finally opened my eyes to what was really happening and stopped the bad episodes. I think it was called Out of Body Experiences by.... I forget who.

Basically when you fall asleep your spirit disconnects from your body. This happens every night. Sometime you become conscious of this experience while it is happening and the fear of being paralyzed leads to SP. But if you understand you are just becoming aware of a nature experience, with no fear, this is what you will experience instead of SP.

    1) a tingling in your body that increases in intensity. This is the beginning of the separation.

    2) a feeling of actually separating and raising up. Do not fear. You will not lose your body and can wish yourself back at any time.

    3) Your out of body. It is quite a pleasant experience. If you want to learn more about what to do study up on astral travel and such. Or find that book.

    p.s. this is not bullshit.

And good luck! you all have a gift. You just don't know it yet ;)

p.s. I saw the immediate future happen once in SP. If it's not paranormal explain that. Everything came to be, from the clothes people wore to what they did and say.

It is a body and spirit thing.

though skeptical about this I'm not used to discard other people's opinions on the basis of my personal bias and before understanding what's all about so I promise not to regard your beliefs as bullshit unless I am sure of that :H . ja, i'll seek for that book.

definitely stress is a triggering event of SP for many of us.

I think that the most important thing with SP is to make as much people as possible people aware of what it is all about so they dont freak out when and if it occurs to them or their mates/relatives: SP alone is not really dangerous, but the fancy interpretations that unaware people can give of it definitely can ruin a life.

Unaware that it is not a mystery but a known medical issue, that is observed and studied, that he/she is not the only one who has this annoyance, that she/he is not going to be insane or die because of that .
I am concerned with reassuring people with SP instead of frightening them . If then one prefers to blame the devil, the aliens or Elvis Presley it's perfectly Ok for me. What I want is to make as much people as possible aware that there is also an earthly explaination available to which they can adhere or not. I am acting in good faith and with a mostly selfless attitude i hope, sorry if you found the world fancy derogatory.

i didn't mean to sound upset. my language is a bit blunt at times. i just wanted you to elaborate. the way you are describing the spiritual/mystic eplanation of sp is a bit limited, but it doesn't offend me. i just feel that the "medical" explanation is based on the assumption that dreams are solely a physical phenomenon, which i firmly dissagree with. if you start with the opinion that dreams are something more, it has to change the way you view sp. i do agree on one point that seems to be on both sides of this "argument", and that is that sp is some sort of blending of the waking and dream state. i don't see anything wrong with you wanting to reassure people that they aren't in danger, or going to die, and there is alot of ignorant information out there. there also happens to be, however, many other forms of information about the subject that are reassuring and mystical. i appreciate your elaboration, and i'm sorry if i came off differently than i intended.
