I've never been called it seriously but considering my age I think I'd be a bit worried. I'm sure it must've been tossed around as a joke before and I sure as hell know tomorrow I'm going to be referring to my friend as Madame. (We got told Madam with an e means a female owner of a brothel).
the black guy at work calls me sir all the time. i doubt he means anything by it, but it feels like i'm in a blackface show or something.. "well hows dah you do, mistuh brian sir? it's jes so good to work for you, mistuh smart white man!"
It depends on the person who says it and how the word sir is used. Some people are raised with the custom of calling someone sir out of respect and/or courtesy, and thats fine, even nice.--However if a salesman or similair type type uses the term sir--they can go fuck themselves.A sidenote:The terms sir and madam are rarely used in Hawaii.
I have never been called madame, but thats what we all called our teachers in french school. Also Mademoiselle.
People tend to call me all kinds of weird things, i'm used to it, so it wouldn't phase me at all if someone called me madam.
When it comes to women being called madam,In my opinion it's a nice old fashioned British term that also "was" commonly used in the US .I like using polite not commonly used anymore terms, for example I use the term 'I beg your pardon' and other courteous nice old fashioned ways of speaking. You get pleasant reactions from people too.
I do too. I like the word "love" to address people as well. I would like to speak that way more often, but don't remember to do it.
Pointy haired clerks and stock boys call me sir. It's kind of weird. Sometimes I'll break out my elderly man voice on them..."Thanks, Sonny!"
i hate it when someone calls me ma'am. it makes me feel so goddamn old, lol. i use sir and ma'am sometimes in a joking way. like with a salute, when someone's being bossy. haha.
I've been called sir a couple of times. It always weirds me out, because I don't feel like a grown up and certainly not a sir. Kinda makes me wanna go "I am not a SIR, god dammit, I work for a living!"
A little weird but I worked with the military a bit so I'm use to hearing it and calling people sir or ma'am.
There's this guy from Texas who works in my local shop, he always calls me ma'am. And it always makes me blush a little, hahah. I rarely get madamed though, instead I just get asked for my ID.
Doesnt bother me at all , when I was growing up , we were taught to say yes sir or mam as being a sign of respect. Where I live now , its the young folk callin the old folk by their first name , Miss Gerri , and such like that , which is nice as well. Good manners will never die out , I hope.
