how can someone serve your interests if they weren't even founded by your people to begin with? but i guess do whatever makes you all feel more validated about yourselves.

 

Donations to the NAACP are one thing but donations to this discussion are doing little to further for constructive dialog and more the case of bludgeoning one another with how right each contributor thinks he is... or how wrong you think another is.

I expect that there are people out there who hold opinions that I would take very personally if I were to engage in a debate with the supposed aim of converting them to my way of thinking. Even in cases of the most narrow minded bigotry there is some element of life experience to back it up in the mind of the bigoted person and the only thing that attacking one another is likely to do in that case is to validate the bigoted opinion.

Anyhow, this topic is going around in circles. Everyone has pretty thoroughly expressed their views on these things and any further debate will have little effect in opening any minds. As much as I abhor repressing what people want to say about controversial issues I must for the sake of maintaining an illusion of peace and civility bring this particular discussion to a humane close. I thank everyone here for their spirited contributions and urge everyone to try weighing what they have to say against how they might feel if the same words were used in like fashion against them.
