This is an older example but it still surves its purpose. Parents fault. I'm overweight. I have been my whole life. At this point, do I blame my parents? No, because it's my own responsibility to turn my life around now if I choose, not theirs. But did they contribute? Absolutely. Did my parents stock our house full of junk? Yup. Did they let me eat as much as I possible could? Yup. Did they continue to have a house full of junk when I pleaded with them about wanting to lose weight? Yup. Of course I have more control now, and I stopped when I was old enough to realize what was going on. I eat fairly healthy now, I’m much more conscious about what I eat. But I believe that children are your responsibility. It's your job as a parent to look after your child. Should they be jailed? No, that's to extreme, but I do see it as abuse, and neglect in your child’s well being. A child doesn't know the affects of what they are eating, and you have to be the responsible one, the one who will say no.
i think and have done for a long time, that nutrition and eating for your health should be a major part of the school curriculum. many people do not know much about nutrition and if they one day too will become parents. children have a tendancy to assume their parents should know everything but this isnt always the case. i think the eductaional system has a responsibility too in their teaching, not just in their kitchens!`
If your toddler is obese all you need to know is not to give them those potatoe chips! It's that simple. I'm sorry. It is.
Home Economics has been a subject that started with English and Maths, somehow it's been lost, I'm guessing. This type of subject wouldn't be a revelation or something new, just confirmation of this bullshit liberal and permissive way of living isn't the best way to lead your life, conservativism (not political) has grounding because it reaches back to certain ways of living that have proven itself in a pragmatic way. As for blaming parents, ok there are arguments to substantiate the point but we are arguing ourselves into a corner. If parents are to blame aren't the businesses that produce this shit to blame too, especially as they market their goods directly to certain age groups with seductive messages?
you know, i KNOW my parents aren't to blame for me getting fat. i am. and the things that led to my habits have been dealt with. but at no point in time were my parents to blame. they were both athletes and extremely healthy people. in fact, i'm the only non-athlete in the family. the food available was always the best. but people would like to blame my parents for my brother getting fat, but that just wasn't ever the case. truly decent and in depth food education would be a great idea.
in that instance yes, but the issue is much wider and not so black & white. re:home economics. in my days in school, we made various scones, flapjacks and pizza (we had to buy plain bases and put our own toppings on) - this obviously is not setting us up for real cooking and a life of healthy eating.
I think in most cases it really is. Sure medical/genetics stuff aside, just stop over feeding your kid, they aren't going to starve. I saw a little boy in a stroller a little while ago, under five for sure, eating a big mac from Macdonalds. That's not the right way to go.
sorry jonny but this threads a loada bollocks man a good discussion loada bollocks ile grant yer that,...............WHATS NEXT .......SHOULD PARENTS OF CHILDREN WHO HAVE RED HAIR BE JAILED ..........SHOULD PARENTS WHO CALL THEIR SON CECIL OR DAUGHTER BERTRUDE BE JAILED .........man the list could go on .
You're right Paul it is BOLLOCKS! But the point is this is being debated within government think tanks, that's the scary reality. It maybe chatter for the church hall with the oldies at 2.30 in the afternoon over cream teas and scones with the hot kettle of tea. Again, why should I care, I'm only an old **** anyway.
Yeah and if I had a five year old that somehow managed to get a hold of a lit cigarette, I'd just stand there and let them smoke it. Having red hair is not hurting your child, over feeding them however, is.
i think generalisations are being made. my nephew is 5 and yes he eats mcdonalds - as a treat! my sister is very strict with his food. he tries everything put in front of him and even likes sprouts (ick). when i have looked after him, she has always given me a packed lunch, of sandwiches, fruit, raisins and a carton of milk. she puts in a small pack of sweets as a treat for him if he is good.
if yer wanna eat chips eat fuckin chips take no fuckin notice what other people think ..........fuck em
I mean this is just chronic - i say the parents of these kids should be stabbed with a sword then maced with a baseball bat till dead http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xu2HMo63nyU http://youtube.com/watch?v=z4RQcYK8JJw&mode=related&search= http://youtube.com/watch?v=mG3SANQZNwM&mode=related&search=
I'm a bad boy pretentious posturing really is getting a trifle tedious llittle man, shame because when you do have something worth listening to it gets lost amongst all the crap. Education is the way forward but I would suppose a stick would be required to back up any carrot, not everyone appreciates the advice from others, especially those deemed as in authority.
Genes is just an excuse. I heard someone said they had an alchoholic gene. I reckon fat kids should be sent out into boot camps and made to excercise while being chased around a football pitch with some guy in a chariot brandishing a whip and a cake dangling in front of the porkers eyes. The parents should simply be named and shamed. Prison would just turn them into angry people who don't even know who they are anymore.
Yeh, nothing like getting the unemployed and turning them into mean dirty killing machines. All we need now is another war.
thanks - when you have something worth lkistening to we will qall be about 300 years old and dust ! If youre obsessing about me again here then let me tell you I am self employed and am doing rather nicely - I have never signed unemployed for 5 years even before i set up in business because I owe the government noithing and they owe me nothing I have nothing to do with them except to kick their balls that are dangling in the faces of the poor
