Neo has one of the best TR's ive ever read. link that shit holmes

I gotta agree with him too, i mean yeah if it makes you happy great, hooray, everyone is happy . . . but there is a higher standard that science holds itself too, higher than 'does it make you happy'. a much higher standard. this is why its silly to compare scientific and non-scientific, they are simply different realms. the scientific seeks to achieve pure objectivity while the mystical seeks to achieve pure subjectivity. different directions.

The fact that you directed what was arguably a condescending barb at what is arguably one of the more civil and supportive members here is what got me to respond. You seemed to choose a somewhat judgmental tone in your reply

In general it tends to do this but I'd stop short of making such a generalization for science. I see much that goes on under the label of science that does little beyond enhancing corporate profitability while doing little else beyond telling us that it has made life better. I see and hear many lawyer spots about pharmaceutical recalls and I get the sense that the population is little more than guinea pigs for drug companies. Cost of living does not necessarily equate to standard of living.

Going on to belittle another posters experience accomplishes little apart from establishing, "I am the expert, hear me roar" and appearing to lash out a bit at someone opting a more conciliatory approach does not add weight to your words- however truthful they may be..

Ordinarily I'd see some of the retorts back at you as uncalled for but the tone you've adopted here suggest you may have had it coming. :)

Right, so in other words, this is about people's characters rather than the content of their posts. About what I thought.

I didn't intend that statement as a generalization. Scientific progress, throughout human history, has caused quite a lot of mischief as well, I'm well aware of that. However, no one can deny the level of human comfort, ease of living, and longevity that science has managed to bring us to thus far.
In light of that, I feel that people portraying science as "assholes trying to rationalize the shit out of everything" (while they type on a computer over the internet in an air-conditioned house) a bit disingenuous and short-sighted.
I feel my position has been fairly represented in this thread. I've never claimed to be an expert of anything, and whenever someone produces a critical response to one of my posts that amounts to more than "hurr durr science = assholes tryin' to rationalize my magic" I'll gladly cede whatever point that may be.
If you want to start another thread about my character and the way that I express myself, go ahead. He may not feel he was condescending, but I felt that he was, and I have a tendency to respond in the same manner that I am addressed.

Well... I think it's a bit of both here because we wouldn't be able to get a sense on someones character without having a number of posts that will tend to suggest bits and pieces of character, buttons that can be pushed, etc... but I appreciate you taking the time to correct that. :)

Well, bravo for your good intent- however it fell short.

I think science has done that for everyone to varying degrees... in my opinion, it has been more effective in helping define class distinctions. To avail oneself to a cutting edge science like medical care, one is well advised to have access to considerable resources... the current mischief that is plied in this instance would be the transfer of life savings for the sake of prolonging an existence which in reality is destined to terminate at some point.

Perhaps you misread something that was not intended as a generalization, ;)

Being in no position to comment one way or another on your expertise I am limited to seeking some understanding for the reasoning behind the method you choose to deliver it. You seem quick to question the words of others and cast a measure of judgment on what you have chosen to label as universal stupidity.

I didn't really see it as insinuating any such thing apart from one reference to provoking demons- though I took it more metaphorically. Maybe I didn't read enough into it? Starting with this first contribution, you have established a bit of an antagonistic presence toward some of the posters.

Different directions, one is a discovery of the universe within and the other is a discovery of the universe without.

The stories authenticity points went down for me when a few days after creating this thread he was boasting elsewhere about scoring heroin, might possibly explain his absence as of late too.

I used to know this girl. Real interesting person. A so-so poet but very full of life and unique, beautiful, deep, and all that bloodclot. She got hooked on crack for a year or two then herion... last time I saw her she was going to some methadone clinic and clean for probation.

But the really weird thing is she started talking exactly like you. Those robotic, logical, articulate paragraphs that have no human depth to them anymore.

So question, were you born a robot or were you once the sad boy who loved to much and then became a robot?

Porkstock, how DARE you ask if he uses LSD! What a condescending asshole!!!!:p Apparently he got you mixed up with ChinaCat or Desos, which I don't see how one would do that. Even then, it was a simple question.

Lighten up neodude! In general, I think most people here would side with you on the main topic of this thread anyways, maybe you don't see that. :sifone:

I just thought your description of porkstock as "one of the more civil and supportive members here" kind of humorous, as if to imply that a civil and supportive person can never be uncivil and non-supportive.

Yes well, I'd say that's an apt description for this entire thread at this point.

Class divide definitely doesn't need science's help for a continued existence, it will always be around. I believe that progress has increased the standard of life regardless of class.
Does it really matter if life is destined to be terminated? Our time here may be in a limited quantity, but regardless of the ultimate end result, people still desire to have that time be as prolonged and pleasurable as possible.

I'm not too sure about that, but the wink sure is reassuring.

There isn't anything antagonistic about it, it's common sense. It's irresponsible to support a person's delusions, particularly right after they've just had a psychotic break, and that type of "support" often leads to frightening results. If I can be described as adversarial towards the trend in this forum of people attempting to validate schizoid mindsets and hallucinatory perceptions and/or delusions, that's a description I'll be happy to take.

Porkstock and I are both long-time posters and are familiar with each other's presence here on the forums.
He is at least remotely aware that I've stated I've taken LSD. The only possible reason he would ask that is if he were either calling me a liar (and trust me, being called a liar regarding my psychedelic experience on this forum has occurred before) or because he was having a difficult time believing that someone who has taken LSD would state the things that I have, hence my question to him.
Apparently a question that is so emotionally volatile that people who aren't porkstock have had a reaction to it.

Thank you for taking the time to reply neo. :)

I didn't see porkstocks post as being anything outside of civil. but I'm certainly glad you were amused by it.

On most days I'm very left-brain oriented.
I've never considered that it is an attribute for which I should apologize.
