Out of all the people I've met, people tend to be either lsd people or shroom people. It really seems like lsd people say all the same negative things about shrooms that shroom people say about lsd.
It's only magic, mysticism and unexplainable because science has not yet caught up with human experience. The more we learn in science and the areas of physics and brain research, the more the lines between "magic" and "science" blur. Plus always remember that scientific fact is always tentative and subject to change based on new information. Any decent and honest scientific researcher knows and understands this. Don't make the error of discounting what science can and has taught us in favor of maintaining the mysterious. Remember, it's all about balance and equilibrium in all things.
yea, the gap needs to close, to where the miraculous and magical can be looked at objectively and scientifically in the same way that the big bang is miraculous and is acknowledged by scientists.
Problems arise in areas of research, clinical and personal, when we are so convinced of the "rightness" of our suppositions that we are unable to admit to the simple fact of "I don't know". Science is tentative and offers explanations based on probabilities, but due to the nature of our sensory apparatus, we never "know" anything with 100% certainty. Understanding and accepting that reality, regardless of which side of the "science vs mysticism" fence you are on, goes along way to opening yourself up to deeper and more profound experiences. Holding on to the prideful attitude that causes a person to insist that "they" are "right" actually closes many learning opportunities. Like it says in my profile, "learning more and knowing less every day"
No, it is magic, mysticism, and unexplainable because an asshole hasnt tried to rationalize the shit out of it. Its more like the lines between science and ignorance blur. Hey, maybe they are one in the same?
But by denying the value of science and understanding such things, you become just as guilty of holding onto ignorance as those in the scientific fields that you accuse of being ignorant. It's about balance. Rationalizing something is the antithesis of understanding it. People rationalize things because they don't understand them or want to try to reconcile things with their own personal viewpoint, much as you are doing here.
There can be many ways to understand things, especially things that don't lend themselves to objective scrutiny, but that does not mean they are all valid or a correct understanding of the subject in question. They used to understand illness as bad "humors" in the blood and would bleed people, sometimes to death, in an attempt too cure. Do you think that their understanding of illness was valid and correct? Not wanting to start something with you pr0ne, but you are exhibiting the prideful attitude of which I spoke. You have a personal investment of your beliefs and experiences and are "protecting" it against a perceived threat of science and a rational explanation of those experiences. It's just like "surrendering" to a strong psychedelic experience, you won't die or be diminished by investigating your experiences through the eyes of a scientific perspective, nor should it change or diminish what you gained personally from them. But refusing to even consider the possibility that your viewpoint may not be entirely correct does diminish you and stunts personal growth. Surely you have looked into the psychedelic mirror enough to understand what I'm saying.
PB, I know what your talking about, and I understand to the fullest. My main point in these posts is to try to get you guys to understand that one bad trip doesnt make one insane. No body even knows this dude in real life (well at least thats what I think). And who says anyhting about "correct"? If it works for me, theres is a chance that it will work for others, and that is a wonderful thing, I am only trying to help some heads be happy. Thats all brotha!
Science produces knowledge and an increased standard of living for everyone. You getting high as shit and dancing naked in a forest for 8 hours is completely pointless to everyone except for you. If it makes you happy, then good for you, but don't try to play it up when all your doing is basically masturbating with a chemical aid then pretending it's something more.
as its been said once or 1000 times.. "One mans Methamphetamine psychosis is another mans religious experience" ..
Is it that hard for you to envision another person expressing an opinion that's different from the norm? I've taken almost every drug under the sun, LSD included. Whether you take LSD or not, stupid is still stupid.
I doubt that he finds it at all difficult to comprehend that peoples' opinions would stray from the norm from time to time. Do you find it so offensive that someone would dare question you that you have to take veiled potshots at their intelligence?
No one has questioned what I've said, they've questioned my validity to say it, which is entirely pointless to the discussion, and not to mention condescending. So, while you may doubt what he finds difficult, his words say otherwise. Nothing I've said here is incongruous to the LSD experience in the slightest, just incongruous to people's personal interpretations of it. ( )
