This is true. Well, all I can really say at this point is an even balance has been created. Ban guns= black market+ gun violence. Don't ban guns= black market anways + gun violence.

From where I stand it looks lose lose to me.

I agree neither option is ideal. But given the options of losing to someone with an illegal gun, while I can't have a gun, or losing to someone while having a fighting legal chance, I choose the latter.

Yes its true, and as roorshack pointed out, if i had to choose it would be the latter.

Now, if only there was a way to ban criminals.... oh well, just another symptom of human existence I suppose.

you'd be VERY surprised. people determined on obtaining something, especially for certain illegal practices are VVEERRRY creative.

i was between "no, only cops/criminals will have them" and "no gun control"

but I believe in some gun control. I don't think felons or mentally unstable people should be allowed a gun license, though those people are most likely to obtain one anyways.

I also believe that people should have a gun in case of revolution - we are on the brink of some heavy times, i know that once i turn 21 i am going to buy a hand gun, perhaps a rifle or two. i should buy a shotgun soon...

I don't care if it sounds far-fetched, but I'm willing to take the power back and give it to the PEOPLE, especially with palin-crazed fucks like this one dude in arizona. PALIN is america's number 1 enemy. fucking face of corruption right there

EXACTLY Kudos, Rep++++ her for this statement. You can ban guns, you can ban knives, but if someone has their mind set on killing someone they are going to do it even if it takes using their hands or a teaspoon. However, we live in a world where the technology of the handgun exists. If cops have them, we should have them. Like other people have said, if it ever came to the point where the government used the police against its citizens on a grand scale, we would be fucked.

I think, at the very least, semi-automatic weapons should be banned. It's one thing to talk about the black market when someone just wants to get a joint or something, and then they instantly have access to all this smack and one day figure "hey, what the hell" (which happens all the damn time). I'm sure it's quite a different class of people they'd be forced to deal with if they wanted a bunch of machine guns. It's not the kind of thing your average high school kid is going to sell to make a few extra bucks or help out a few friends.
Aside from that, it's my understanding that the full wording of the second amendment is meant to pertain to well regulated state militias.. not shotguns at some drunken campout.

I've agreed with a lot of your posts up until this one. Have you ever been in a situation where you needed a gun? Right before I turned 16, I was up late one night watching music videos I went to turn the tv off, lock the door, and go to bed. I looked outside and noticed my interior light was on. I grabbed the .22 and headed out the back door and crept around behind my jeep. I noticed a tall skinny white guy bent over in my jeep going through my glove compartment. I shot twice in the air and told him to get the fuck away from my jeep and empty his pockets. He had a 22 pistol in his pocket. He laid it down and my dad came outside and took it and we called the police. It took the police over 20 minutes to get there (rural Alabama).

There are a thousand ways this situation could have turned out horribly. I had a gun and it protected me and my family. Do I need a fully automatic M16? As of right now to defend my life, probably not, but I do think a gun comes in handy and can be the difference between life and death. I can kill my own food and use it as protection when needed.

Im sorry lunar, i agree with you most of the time and really like your opinions, but this is total bullshit.

When i called the cops because i found that dead guy, it took them 5 minutes to get there, plus the time i was on the phone with the police operator so thats another 2 minutes. Thats 7 minutes. Now what if you wake up and a guy is in your house with a gun, and you woke up because you heard him shoot your wife downstairs. youre gonna call the cops and be dead by the time they get there, or youre gonna run downstairs with a coat hanger and try your best. either way youre fucked, and even if the cops come then youre just going to be taken hostage.

Theres nothing wrong with guns, just look at how many people that use guns responsibly compared to this one immature idiot who was a fucking loser so he had to go and take it out on other people because he couldnt handle it himself. Maybe if someone wouldve had a gun on them they couldve stopped this guy sooner when he fired his first few shots

I've had multipule chances to purchase handguns, submachine guns, and assault rifles, in some cases modified to be fully automatic or coming that way from the factory. I've never even asked. This starting from the time I was about 15. And this isn't even some scary ghetto gun-running thing, I feel totally safe around most/all of the people in question, they're just people with guns or access to guns.

you must be seriously connected with the gun world.

It's easy to find hand gun and assault rifles, but to get someone who has a sub-machine gun or any other fully auto from the factory is very hard to buy legally and very expensive if bought illegally.

The only difference between a semi-auto and fully auto assault rifle (or at least on ones like fnc1's) is a matchstick stuck in the breech.

A guy downtown once offered to sell me heroin. When I said no thanks he said he'd throw in a handgun for an extra $25 bucks. As though if I didn't want the heroin a $25 handgun was going to close the deal

Someone selling a handgun for $25 is basically saying "Yo, I have this gun with these bodies on it, you want?"

I don't think that guns should be banned but I think that they should be heavily restricted. Essentially only law enforcement officials, military and farmers (after heavy scrutiny i.e. proving that they need a gun for their business).

Sporting shooters have no need to keep a gun at home. They should be able to own a gun, however they should have to prove that they are participating in regular competition and the gun should be kept at that persons gun club.

Why would you want only the police to have guns when the police are generally not around when a crime is being committed.

And crime went up in Australia and homicides generally the same after instituting your ban after their heavy restrictions even despite a lower percentage of guns being used in crimes. Again, gun laws have no correlation on crime.

I guess every congress no matter what party is in control does at least one good thing in its 2 years, and in this congress's case it'll be there won't be for once the inevitable legislative response to a shooting.
