"talk about taking away freedom - i don't own a car, don't own a television, yet they want to force me to buy a gun?"

If you value freedom then you will allow me mine.

NO countries are "fucking nuts" but some people EVERYWHERE are.

I really do not wish to hassle anyone but there are those that do, they deserve to be put down.

In the UK the politicians and judiciary travel around with security surrounding them so how can they appreciate what it is like to be abused?

I know what it is like and I bet you do too.

one of the things that astonishes me about this thread is how fearful so many people seem to be

i suppose it's easier to buy a gun than to lose the fear . . .

you misunderstand me, i do not in fact value freedom, at least not to the detriment or exclusion of anything else

    [such as food, shelter, etc.]

it's the freedom nuts in the u$ that are also the biggest gun nuts, thus my reference

I must admit I'm always a bit confused when people bring up a constitution in a thread about whether guns SHOULD be banned...

There won’t ever be a ban on guns in the us people in cities in more liberal areas of the country tend to live in communities where the dominant thought is a liberal one so a common misconception is made that there are a lot of people that share these views. This is not the case and in fact far more people in the country value their right to guns. That being said I really never understood why people have a problem with guns.

    What would you do?

Scenario: You're asleep on your couch. A couple of men break into your home, steal countless sums of cash, beat and rape your wife and 2 daughters and then sets your home afire. You wife is burned to death and your daughters dies of smoke inhalation.

    What would be your preference-
    A. As described, with the loss of your wife and daughters?
    B. Or sitting in a detectives office explaining why you killed two thugs inside your home?

    Pick one.

    Can't happen?

Yeah, the thugs had guns. But if I had a gun I'd rather go down fighting them than for it to turn out like it did.

i'll bet those guys who do the home invasions never have guns of their own

    or:

officer, i swear they came in with guns and i didn't mean to shoot my wife, but it was kinda dark in there and she got in the way, and no, i didn't get a good look at them . . .

ah, life's full of surprises, i'll meet them with an open heart and empty hands

    btw, re urban/rural

i used to live in big cities, mostly in crime-ridden neighborhoods with lots of people around darker than i, ooh scary, never had a gun or needed one

now i live in bumblefuck, ranchers and hunters and nra-stickered pickups everywhere, still don't see the fascination, am amazed at how much $ is spent though

Logan 5 - If you're that scared of people, you can get a secure home with unbreakable windows, security cameras and guards if you like. The fact is, you have to leave the home sometime and when you do, you're going to be vulnerable. Now, what are you going to do, carry a gun everywhere? But what if that's not enough, what if they have flamethrowers? Then you'd need a grenade or perhaps a nuclear bomb. You are welcome to imagine the world to be full of crazies who will kill you and your wife, and then you are welcome hide away from society. The rest of us will try to get along and maybe go about fixing the problems of the world.

I guess you have never felt weak and vulnerable?

For me, this is NOT about convincing YOU, I am just telling you how I feel.

The beauty of it is we can disagree all day and still be friends. But that is up to you. :)

Everyone and everything is a problem when you adopt a victim mentality.

I wonder how many lives you have damaged and not even noticed or cared.

why would you even say such a thing about a person that you know next to nothing about?

apart from the fact that he is uninterested in killing his fellow human beings?
