I remember this commercial from back in the 80s

 

Not short shorts....there is basically no material just seams, zipper and a piece of denim that looks like a belt. A skeleton of shorts or jeans. And there also the same principle as the shorts. Seams, zipper and a belt from the denim material.

 

Well....umm....yeah, that’s acceptable fashion for a younger woman Acceptable if they’re in their 20s, but 30s and up- meh, not so much.

 

Oh yes!!

 

Believe it or not, Jane still wears her cut off jeans when she is working in the garden, but they are cut off a few inches above the knee, just above the depth of water in the pond.

Fairly close fitting, but Jane is like a bean pole so she has nothing bulging out above or below them.

 

As one who remembers, my preference was/is more to a short (mini) skirt to shorts

My partner likes wearing ripped denim shorts and hotpants. She normally buys short denim shorts and then rips them herself to whatever length she prefers, some are way shorter than others, anything from showing a bit of butt cheek to full on show. She will rip some cutouts in them too. Typically something like this:
