shooting "wild" cats

I for one am this world is horibly overpopulated we should "thin the Herd" so to speak and randomly nuke several random cities or stratigic water or power center for a large area.

Animal control is a tough problem. People that work closely with animals don't relish the idea of killing them. I've heard in Maine they're sterilizing deer to copet with their population control, the same thing would work with cats of course, killing them is probably much cheaper and letting them starve and die of disease cheaper still and more politcally palitable. But really, the larger and very valid point that was raised previously is that domestic cats (which are not native) are very effective predators of native birds and small mammals. In the city its not so much a problem since most of the birds are nonnative, but in the country and suburbs, scientific studies published have documented an average 46% drop in 23 species of small mamals and birds and the exterpation (or driving out of the area) of no less than 13 species when only 2 barn cats were introduced to a 20 acre study area. Should we be killing one animal to save 13 and perhaps more? Its a hard decision, and I don't think I could look at a cat and pull the trigger but I know that something needs to be done. The worst threat to native systems are nonnatve invasive species of plants and animals and cats are definietely invasive. Maybe if people would try and find homes for their unwanted cats and dogs instead of dumping them in the country we would have this problem. Even if they humanely euthenaised them they would spare them the painful death from disease or starvation, or perhaps if they would think twice before getting them in the first place it would be the best. I totally respect your outrage at the idea of killing them, its not the cats fault their abused this way, but its not the native species fault either, and if we do nothing they will suffer the most. I think the best thing would be to find a way to minimize suffering all the way around, and in this case the only feasible option might be killing cats. Its just horrible.

i think everyone shoudl all be rounded up, and made to watch hunting videos and live on a farm from the ages of 3-9...thatlll straighten everyone out

no a serious note, know where most of the thinking like many of the peple in this thread comes from...Bambi, that is the one buiggest problem with the conservation projects...people get caught up in Disneys propaghanda [which he took from a boook thank you] and think all these animals live peaceful ahppy lives...
