My first psychedelic experience (mushrooms, at age 14) involved listening to The Lamb right before it took off, but it was very brief because I wanted to be free of any external influences on my awareness. I went on to have many psychedelic experiences during which I played all of the Yes albums, in particular Relayer (thus, the old user name). And You and I holds a similar importance to me, only not to the degree of a first time experience.

    "Echoes of the Broadway, Everglades..."
One of the most singularly profound moments in music history.

So you used to be Relayer?! Cool, I used to be PB_Smith.
Glad to make your re-acquaintance. I wondered what happened to Relayer. :p

Everything about it is amazing, from the secret contributions of Brian Eno to the story and composition and arrangement, and the production.. I mean it's perfect on every level. Truly an example of "you either get it, or you don't"; there is no middle ground there. It's an album that is also bittersweet and makes comes across in retrospect as melancholic and slightly depressing, because of the *immense* potential there (the scrapped film, for example) and the events and products which followed it. I'm only 27 (turning 28 this month) and was introduced as a child to become a lifelong fan by my mother so of course I wasn't there to experience it as introduced, but all the same I feel that it ultimately makes no difference in the way it has impacted my life; Rael is real and Peter Gabriel's ability as a poet (never mind flutist and performance artist) are criminally under appreciated.

I couldn't pick a favorite from that album, except for the instrumental build-up of the song we are posting lyrics from, but Back in NYC, Carpet Crawlers, The Lamia, The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging, Hairless Heart, Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats, Riding the Scree, Colony of Slipperman... all of them are mind blowing and it's among one of the most peculiar, the most strange and truly 'psychedelic' recordings that I'm familiar with, which retains some of the classical and pop-format to song structure. The (I've always wondered.. Eno inspired, perchance?) ambient interludes are particularly poignant and serve to further obscure the listeners attachment to reality, and songs like In The Cage, although a bit 'played out' (relatively, of course) are still absolute jams that get my heart pumping every time. Can enough good things be said about it? It's a God damned masterpiece.

I can't pick just one, so I am posting three songs, which served as my cross-over tunes that led me from Berlin school era Krautrock, and into prog-disco, and eventually forward into disco itself. Michael Hoenigs 'Sun & Moon' from his debut album (he also composed the OST's to the Baldurs Gate series, a former love of my childhood), Drachenflung by a German obscure (super)group (?) called ACI, and A'mbars 'Sweet Lover 2'. These three songs were featured in various early mixes by a Swedish dj and space disco artist named Albion, who produced two series (Astronomix and Mixtura) of prog-disco mixes varying from between 1 and 2 hours in length which contain some of the best, and most obscure, music in the world. Unfortunately for some reason he was removed from robotdj.net and he approached me about sending him his early mixes because I guess he lost his copies, so I don't know that they are readily available online anymore, this was years ago. He has a soundcloud to which a few have been uploaded, but not many, at least not since I last checked. His mixes, possibly more than any actual band, changed my life and my taste in music unlike any other. Enough thanks can never be given.

Uhhhmmm, Uhh, nothing to add to that, except I agree 100%

Peter Gabriel is one of the best storytelling lyricists, if not the best.
The way he so eloquently yet completely inks a scene with words, yet allows the listener to paint the colors.

Yes, you either get IT or you don't.:sunny:
