I can tell you how the ones I'm friends with feel about it. They all ride first of all, and none would go without a helmet and proper clothing, so I'm thinking they feel if ya have safety equipment, use it.
What about the whole scraping people off the pavement thing? Motorcycles are death traps IMO, and this isn't coming from inexperience. Helmets are only effective at low speed, the won't prevent brain slap. I still don't think there should be laws Goggles or glasses for motorcycles, yes. (And I've almost been busted for that btw, in Pheonix. Got a warning. Fine would have been 450$...The glasses were on my head lol) Don't want a bug or something to hit your eye and have you veer into traffic.
who actually does this? i see all these signs saying to look out for motorcycles, don't fuck with motorcycles, etc, but i've never witnessed anything like it. the other way around, sure. been randomly cut off or flipped off or passed in a no passing zone while speeding by a bunch of motorcycles. and really, watch out for motorcycles? how can you miss that 150 decibel machine flying up on your rear end like you're not moving?
I hate when motorcycles drive between my car and another one, literally inches away from you. Dumbasses
Not all riders do that shit...I see it also but generally it is kids on sport bikes. Not old farts on Harleys.
If I was on motorcycle and stuck in traffic I would definitely use it to go between cars (and here it is the common thing to do, not just for younger riders). It's one of the perks of motorcycles imo. People who have a problem with that (not talking about getting their car scratched obviously) seem whining turds to me who can't handle seeing another person advance a lot faster in the same traffic jam as they By not watching out
What non riders do not realize is...they will pull out in front of or cut off someone on a bike because we aren't big. The same assholes would not pull out in front of a Hummer or large truck. They will also stay too close behind a bike. Slamming on the breaks on a bike is much different than a car. I think they do not feel any threat..so they take chances. Happens all the time. That is how they do not watch for motorcycles. Frankly, we all must share the road, from cars, to bicycles to runners...watch out for people and be considerate.
In essence it IS this simple. Same with seatbelts: if you drive a car just wear the goddamn thing. It sounds now like because there are motorcycles on the public road (which do not have seatbelts) people think they have a valid reason to bitch about it being obligatory in cars Get over yourselfs. And if people only not wear it because they forget when getting in their car.... well, seems clear they should get a reminder then.
Many people do realistically judge the speed at which a motorcycle is moving because of its size. Motorcycles are small so easy to miss visually. Glare is a definite danger to motorcyclists. When the sun is to your back on a motorcycle, the sun is in an oncoming, or right angled, driver's eyes, if you can see your shadow in front of you...be careful. Same with dusk and other visual distractions. If we are going to pick on motorcycles because of their inherent dangers in relation to cars, we could also do the same for sub compacts and compact cars verses full sized cars, cars verses pickup trucks, pick up trucks verses semis and so on.....
My favorite was Gilligan shoes, shorts, no shirt and just a pair of sunglasses. Such an amazing sensation, jettin' around on a warm summer night, baked as hell or trippin'.... I'm so glad I live to tell! LOL
Im really good about giving motorcycles space in front of me. What pisses me off some other idiot cagers will use that as an opertunity to pull in front of me. Which now closes the space between car and motorcycle..
I had a motorcycle years ago but I didn't do anything stupid while riding. I rarely went over 60 mph on the highway and one time I went about 90....once. That was the only time I wanted to try that. I just knew that I wasn't as experienced of a rider as other people so I was always as safe as possible. Just yesterday, my son and I were passed by a really loud bike and he commented about how he thought they shouldn't be so loud. That one was exceptionally loud but I told him "You ever hear the phrase...loud pipes save lives? Well, they do!" Then I told him about a time I was in a very large commercial truck and wanted to change lanes. That truck had some blind spots but it looked perfectly clear to get in the other lane. Except....I could hear the pipes of a bike. I knew he was there and I just couldn't see him so I waited. Had I not heard that exhaust, I probably would have thought I could get over and may have killed that guy.
