I've worked hard all my life and I've paid taxes through my nose. No fucking government, no suit jockie, who in effect lives through my sweat and is really my employee is going to fucking tell me I need an ID. They don't need to see a fucking ID when they take my money in tax do they? And if they think people will just sit at home over this and let Blair or Brown shaft us up the pooper, they have another thing coming, because history has shown what people can do when they unite together for a just cause.
on top of all the other bad things about ID cards ... I think the thing that takes the cake is they want to make it mandatory but then CHARGE for them. I mean, if you tell someone you have to have it, then they should give them out not then charge you £25 or whatever it is for you to get what you have to have. That is just lunacy at it's best.
searching online I found that the USA government already tried to get this in May/June 2005. There was something about it being voluntary at first but anyone without 1 would not get social security, be able to vote, get medicare/medicaid open a bank account and a bunch a stuff. Well I won't be here long enough to need social security & I don't live in any 1 spot long enough to qualify for any medicaid or any health insurance & banks already don't let me open accounts & I don't own a car.....so sorry folks I ain't gonna worry about getting no ID card. But for anyone in UK and the other countries that already use ID cards...I wish u luck with them.
A rather optimistic figure I have to applaud your belief that they may just retain some integrity and charge you less than it costs for them to process any of it. I will find out the exact figure but I believe its somewhere nearer £40 The government here aims to be dishing out ID cards to visitors with a passport that arrive in this country. They will have to inform the authorities of their whereabouts and notify them if the information given changes. Also the police will have the right to keep your passport for the duration of your stay and/or at their discression during your visit. You will only be able to access money if you use the id card (i believe that is their proposal but I havent concentrated opn foreign access to the card). At any time they can unceremoniously chuck a visitor out of the country
This was already passed in the US. They'll be mandatory by 2009 at the latest. Without the card you won't be able to get a driver's license, open a bank account, fly on an airplane, receive any kind of government benefits, and a zillion other things. To push the bill through with almost no debate, it was tacked on to a defense spending 'support our troops' bill in Congress. Unless there's some huge outcry (which there won't be) it's coming here, like it or not.
I've already stated in other threads that I don't have a current driver's license but seeing as I don't own a car I don't plan on getting a new one, and accroding to the law as of right now which says you have to get a new 1 everytime you move....I have moved about 6 times this year. I have not had bank accounts for a few years & I don't get any government handouts. Now give me a good reason to get a ID card. The police here in Tampa have already seen my old AZ license, but without a car even they couldn't give me a reason to change it.
Well, I understand your points, but the problem is that, unless you want to go and live in a cave, sooner or later you (and just about everyone else) is going to be forced to get one. Without a current driver's license, you won't even be able to cash a check, which means sooner or later you're gonna have to renew it. It's only a matter of time.
So let me get this right. It's allright for the government to shaft us up the pooper and we should just bend over and take it? £40 for an ID card. They should pay me £40 for giving them my details.
the date on my AZ license says it expires in 2029...but it got suspended for not having insurance for a week back in 2002. I kept the plastic card and nobody knows its suspended.. all the know is I'm from AZ. So I'm always passing thru anywhere I have to show it. The only time I needed to show it lately was when I went to bartending school last month. ***yes in AZ, a 16 yr old can get a license and it expires when they retire**
Nice one Squawkers. In the UK, most places you can use the driving license for ID, so there's absolutely no need for ID cards unless something more sinister is lined up.
the problem is also that they probably already know most of your details as it is... i mean, you most likely have a driver's licence, a national insurance numbercard, an NHS number, paying road tax (if you have a car) and have a V5 document for that ... oh, and damn forgot the birth certificate ... and well passport if you have traveled outside of the country ... so really you'd be paying £40 for a piece of plastic ... and for the right to bend over and be taking it up the pooper as you put it. oh ... and AZ is Arizona for those of you that might not be hip to the state abbreviations
Thats right because unlike all the other bits of card and paper that you carry for the convenience of the government, the id will effectively be your passport to travel beyond your door to any port that would allow you out of the country. Once you reach a port you will need your foreign travel passport. The id card is, and its only purpose seems to be a licence to be on the streets. Rather like in the UK when a released murderer must have a licence to be on the streets. Infact its worse than that because the UK gov can actually call in these cards at its discression imposing house arrest or a curfew, such that your card will be used only when the government say so. Its a way of saying you are guilty till proven innocent. Further to that the police in the uk have the right to go house to house (they have had this right for 2 years) and ask your family, neighbours and friends whether you are an upright and honourable person or a total nuicance or have been invbolved in crime and on that basis make an arrest. It most certainly is a VERY sinister scheme - mainly because it is an affirmation of a police state - finally the police get to control your movement and to be able to read those cards at a distance (see supermarket technology for tracking goods) if they carry a chip. they could trawl a large crowd wihout having to question anyone and without anyone knowing
I thought this was worth adding for the many posters who have been following this debate. IF anyone doubts that the id card id going to be used as an internal passport then just click this link http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/passports-and-immigration/ and the evidence will be apparent straight away. After you visit this page you will see a link to passport and immigration information amd under the passport section is most definitely a section to ID cards http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/passports-and-immigration/id-cards/?view=Standard What they fail to mention is the fact that you may now carry an ID card volountarily or apply for a passport. but between now and 2009 you must do one or the other http://www.identitycards.gov.uk/index.asp
Now we know why there have been horrendous queues at British airports and NONE in any other airport in the world, including USA. They are now saying that you can get through a lot quicker if you play ball with the government. It's typical. The British public must not fall again like plonkers for these dirty tricks. If the government inconvinience the people, then the people should inconvenience the government. So let's recap, you can either stand at the airport for 4 hours to board a plane, or you can have an ID card and be 'hearded' through. There is a word in the dictionary for that. It's called COERCION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Children are having their DNA sampled without the consent of their parents and that data is not destroyed even though the child is never charged with an offence. It is worth knowing your rights as they apply NOW to stop and search. Many people believe a police officer is entitled to know your name and address - but this is simply not the case. An officer is only entitled to your name and address if they are going to charge you with an offence. the home office site says:
Thank you for posting this Sentient. For all those who live, intend to live, or simply visit the UK, I recommend that you save the above information for reference.
Once we have id cards your right to live anonymously upon the land that is your birthright will be taken from you. http://news.com.com/2010-1069-980325.html that should explain all you need to know about what the state and its master, "big business", is doing to tag and identify you. If I were you I'd stop sleeping and wake up soon and get off your arses t6o protest about this stuff at the biggest of the protest groups http://www.no2id.net This group is against those schools and nurseries that are already fingerprinting children without parental permission http://www.leavethemkidsalone.com/index.htm
That'd pretty fucked man, about RFID. That was published three years ago as well, i wonder what's happening now? Every piece of paper printed on a new printer ( or almost every piece) has a tiny invisible dot in the corner that says when and on what it was printed. Obviously the feds aren't using this right now or we'd know, but it's only a matter of time. Not an urban myth, it was in the papers a while back.
Thats right - the situation is well out of control. To be honest, if people dont start realising exactly what is at stake here they are going to sleepwalk into a nightmare. Its ok for people to pass this off as being all a bit too much in the future - most people wont do anything until they get some asshole cop with a gun wake them up so they can search their bookshelf to see if they got any subversive political books like they do in Africa. THE POINT IS : if people are just going to sit there and whinge its no good. People have to make an effort to write to their MP or other political representatives, they also have to demonstrate and let these crap politicians and the civil service know that theres gonna be trouble if this scheme is introduced. One tactic is to get the planning applications for the interrogation centres refused at the planning stages. http://www.no2id.net/getInvolved/idCentres.php
