I read that originally, Satan was not so bad, but more like the bad cop in a good cop/bad cop scenario. He took all the flak, cuz he did the dirty work, the disciplining, the prosecuting, etc. In the tract I recently read, it said that in ancient Judaism, Shaitan was more like God's prosecutor, and therefore was to be avoided, but was not in any way evil.
And Lucifer... his description could describe the messiah just as easily as it could the devil.

But dont expect occam to believe what you believe.

Occams method of belief does not include 'interest', or 'power'.
It cares not if occam 'wants' to believe..or not.
Ego and want. have NO place in the method to understanding
except as a motivation to understand in the first place.

For example...You want to be a christian...?
    What if YOU DID NOT?
    Would you still be one?

Explain to occam the REAL THINGS THAT EXIST that would
result in you HAVING TO BELIEVE that the christian god exists.
[anything said or made by man is not accepted]

Why did you want it? I do not at all, & if God is real, I only want to say to it, ''thanks", and "thy will be done."

I don't think you get what he is saying... Perhaps you should read back over it and contemplate the meaning?

Because I had interest in it. Seeing things that are beyond explanation, hidden things, enigmas...all these things made me go "OOoohh..., let's try that and see what happens...ah! Astral Projection! :D" ( ). Yes, Soulness||Chaos, you may remember those days...

    Of coarse Atheist/Agnostics don't like it. (that's why they're Atheists/Agnostics).

This is the wrong Forum for these things though. And I believe this Thread's under the wrong forum aswell...

Not at all.... I am likely closest to being an agnostic, since I am unsure God exists, but I do believe very, very strongly in angels, prayer, miracles, magic, and an afterlife. I have seen many of the things beyond explanation, and did not think much of it for most of my life.... last year I finally saw that this is something significant for me, and my faith has grown by many times.

    Quite correct..
    You claim understanding
While argueing from a premise that is a faith based on a belief based on an interpretation of words about a possible entity.

This is the wrong place for you.

    Occam

PS..And a small correction...From what you have said..You have NO IDEA
why occam is an agnostic or even what an agnostic really is..

Label me as you wish, but I don't consider myself a new ager, as a matter of fact, 20 years ago I decided that traditional religions are closest to what I feel is real in my heart, but there is not one single faith I feel is best. They all have lessons for me, and I will not join one cuz it thereby discounts the rest. I am a spiritual person, a believer, but will likely never join any church.
New agers are, imho, just as spiritually righteous as Christians, or any other belief system, including atheism. And, imho, all are good, all are needed, and all are truly valid, real, correct paths.

Ok...tell me what forum you'd put it under?

If you have any other ideas, I'd be more than happy to move it... though I don't see anyone else complaining.

I didn't have an understanding on the subject, thinking it may have been in close ties with atheism [which i've learned now, that it's not] so maybe you should go back and actually READ my base post instead.

I'm not complaining, but I'm just making a suggestion! ;)

I'd put it under Hedonism, or the general religious forums! :)

This is the wrong place for the thread anyways! :p

I didn't claim to know why you're an agnostic. So why say so?

lol. That was more like a figure of speech rather than an actual statement.

As you can see I took the Agnostic claim back! ;)

As a former card-carrying member of LaVey's C.O.S. I can tell you that the "baby sacrificing" is all stupid bullshit. Where is the evidence? Let me guess, Satanists are all so brilliant they have never gotten caught by the police...er...wait!! The Police may be Satanists!!! Please.....

I am no longer affiliated with the C.O.S. because I do not want the bad rep that goes with it and I disagree with some of the tenets of the Church. So, I returned my card, resigned my name and lost my $200 membership fee (non-refundable).

you make a good point, Libertine.

There may be different sects of Satanism that believe in different things, but the point that Libertine brings up about the baby sacrificing... you can't debate with that one!

I just learned that my boyfriend's sister's boyfriend [that's a mouthful] is a Satanist... and to whomever it was that brought up "baby sacrificing" and the like... I just have to laugh. And, I'm ending it at that....

RE: What puzzles me... is why would they give this philosophy/religion that particular name if it has nothing to do with Satan at all?

Because LaVey was a huckster. He dressed up his own beliefs in some B-movie trappings about devil worship and got what he wanted.

You don't get much press out of "Secular Humanism religion." But "Satanism!!!!! SATAN!!!!" gets a LOT of attention, still.

Lots of negative attention from the usual suspects, lots of large breasted women trying very hard to show how naughty and liberated they were, and cash. Well, the cash ran out and he was later proven to be an abject fraud, but his book is kind of interesting.

Michael - well, in order to believe in anti-Christianity (in other words, a completely inverse Christianity in which you worship evil absolutely and utterly, and wish to ally yourself with the Prince of Darkness etc.) you really WOULD have to be a complete and utter psychopath and sociopath.

There were early Christian sects who committed abominable acts in order to be forgiven them and therefore enhance the glory of Christ, but the rest of the Christians killed them off.

Likewise, Hell-fire clubs even back in the Regency period took on the trappings of black masses to piss off the fundies of the day, but that, like now, is just an excuse for elites or would-be-elites to cosplay and get laid.

    Someone mentioned a "serious satanist"
if someone is to label themselves as that, they are surely not following lavey, as he was anything but serious
Lavey was a showman, working in a carnival when he wrote the bible, influenced by seeing men sin at the carnival at night, and attend church in the morning.
Reading some of his essays shows how serious he was, as he suggests how one should dress rediculously as a satanist while having company, and even how to build prosthetic robot sex slaves.

You gotta give him his props at getting people to try and think certain things through...

Mind you for my money Aleister Crowley was the Bruce Lee of religion. He was doin' yoga before it was hip, and his "you are your own God" statement is one of the deepest ones stated in the 20th century.
