It was me. *grins inanely* hmmmm i thought of some more, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John. and, Design For Life by the Manic Street Preachers, does anyone else find that sad? cos i find it kinda heart-wrenching in a way.... Jaz
maybe it wasn't supposed to be, but it definately is... there's an overwhelming sense of despair and loneliness all the way through, and someone trying to be something they're not, and wanting something they can't get...ie, the psychological wall. and in the end it destroys them. jaz
Probably "Invitation to the Blues" by Tom Waits here are the lyrics but its more about how he sings them and how the song sounds (I love it) Well she's up against the register with an apron and a spatula with yesterday's deliveries, and the tickets for the bachelors she's a moving violation from her conk down to her shoes but it's just an invitation to the blues and you feel just like Cagney looks like Rita Hayworth at the counter of the Schwab's drug store you wonder if she might be single she's a loner likes to mingle got to be patient and pick up a clue she says howyougonnalikem over medium or scrambled anyway's the only way be careful not to gamble on a guy with a suitcase and a ticket gettin out of here it's a tired bus station and an old pair of shoes but it ain't nothing but an invitation to the blues but you can't take your eyes off her get another cup of java and it's just the way she pours it for you joking with the customers and it's mercy mercy Mr. Percy there ain't nothin back in Jersey but a broken-down jalopy of a man I left behind and a dream that I was chasin and a battle with booze and an open invitation to the blues but she's had a sugar daddy and a candy apple Caddy and a bank account and everything accustom to the finer things he probably left her for a socialite and he didn't love her 'cept at night and then he's drunk and never even told her that he cared so they took the registration and the car-keys and her shoes And left her with an invitation to the blues 'Cause there's a Continental Trailways leaving local bus tonight, good evening you can have my seat I'm stickin round here for a while get me a room at the Squire the filling station's hiring I can eat here every night what the hell have I got to lose got a crazy sensation, go or stay and I've got to choose and I'll accept your invitation to the blues
when i saw the video for the cover Jonny Cash did of Nine Inch Nails hurt that almost choked me up, especially now he's died. there's something about that song and Cash's voice... dude.
The Saddest song i have ever heard has to be Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, that song always makes me tear up
i agree. Also "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles makes me cry... I know... it really shouldn't. agree again. agree again. once more (surprise, surprise) I agree. so there i went blank so I just got behind other people who I agreed with.
I have jeff buckley-hallelujahstuck in my head right now, it's kind of sad yet uplifting, maybe its cliche but it's really spiritual for me

i wind up crying every time i hear "forever young" by bob dylan. i don't know why. also whenever i hear "donald and lydia" by john prine
A good amount are quite sad....but lately... (mostly Beatle related...because I've been listening to them a lot lately...) George Harrison- "If Just For Today", "Stuck Inside A Cloud", "Beware of Darkness" John Lennon- "God", "Mother", and esp. "How?" Paul McCartney- "Here Today" Ringo Starr- "Never Without You"- he wrote this for George...and I lost it...esp at the end when he goes, "I think love is about you..." The Beatles- "In My Life", "Golden Slumbers" (not really sad...beautiful to make me cry), "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "The Long and Winding Road" Savage Garden- "Two Beds and a Coffee Machine", "I Don't Know You Anymore", "The Lover After Me" (esp. the line--"Here I go again I promised myself I wouldn't think of you today/But I'm standing at your doorway/I'm calling out your name because I can't move on...") Bob Dylan- "Blowin' In The Wind" Pat Methany Group- "Letters From Home"
I only read the first and last pages, but I didn't see any mention of Ben Harper. His "Welcome to the Cruel World" cd has several of the saddest songs I can think of. I think "Sometimes" is the saddest.
