Down here in Berks County, we used to party and swim at an abandoned quarry about a half-mile back in the woods.. There was a 350' cliff on one side and both sides sloped horseshoe-wise down to a flat area where you could park (back then--the 60's and early 70's-- we could drive cars in. The water was fed by two creeks and underground springs and was cold, but not as cold as the Big Falls. There was only one place you could wade out-- maybe 90'-- then it dropped off to over 90' deep. There were 20', 30' and a 90' cliff you could dive off. I never went off the 90' cliff, but some people did. Most got injured; a few died. I often went off the 30' cliff, but then you had to swim over 100' to get out. We used to go out Friday night after work and stay to late Sunday night, leaving only to get more beer, ice, cigarettes, hoagies and girls. We burned bon-fires all night and slept in the cars on in sleeping bags. There were dozens of abandoned buildings we tore down for firewood, plus there were dead trees.

Sometimes, we would push junk cars off the 350' cliff-- what a blast! I have at least 2 of them in there-- a 59 Chevy and a 53 Chevy. There must be dozens in there-- it's too deep to remove them, plus they disintergrated on the way down. It was neat as hell!

Finally, after too many people drowned, it was sold to the state and made part of French Creek State Park and fenced in. Now, it's patrolled by park rangers, but back then, the cops left us alone-- it was still private property.

I'd give a couple hundred dollars to have just one week-end like that back, but what good would it do? At least half of the people I ran with are dead, most from drinking or drugs. It doesn't matter-- I'll always have it in my memories.

May Aizelle--I KNOW you wish for summer-- in Tioga summer is short, and still chilly at night. I love it there, but I would never winter it out unless I had 9 cords of wood, 10 gallons of kerosene for lanterns, plenty of candles, 100 gallons of gas for a generator, plenty of beer, whisky and deer meat, a lot of cool CD'S, beaucoup books, at least 3 cats, one dog and a sweet, intelligent woman.

Then, a Tioga County winter might seem like a blessing.

(Did I mention plenty of wool blankets, underneath we might sleep nude.!!!!)

    Gee, I guess not.

May Aizelle-- My daughter-in-law knows where the swimming hole Blueberry is! She says it is upstream from The Big Falls-- on Stony Fork Run.

Is that right? She never heard of Woodhouse swimming hole.

So, May Aizelle, we went to the snake hunt this year-- it was cold, cloudy and windy. Only got 5 rattlers-- not much size to them.Didn't go swimming at any of the holes-- too goddamn cold. But-- we still had fun , dear------missed you!

    Maybe next year.

Oh--- my daughter-in-law is Carolyn Smith and I think she graduated high school around 1993 (?) from Mansfield High (?). I'll as her when I see her.

    TA-TA!

I'm removing information from myself in previous posts that I've made about where I might live because people find them in google searches and ask me if I will help them find drugs. I'm not against people taking drugs, but I have no desire to put myself at risk for the sake of helping strangers break the law. If you're a moderator and reading this, it would be cool if you would just delete my reply.
