I wouldn't say its ignorant, churches fling food like its a game....plus food stamps, soup kitchens, bakeries throw away good food all the time, stuff from last night, plus you can always spange if you really need to. For real, just go out one day and try to get free food, its easy. Now, maybe if you are brokedown on a long desert road, or something like that you could be in trouble, but people won't let you starve, the worse that can happen is you would collapse from hunger, wind up in the hospital with some food and a bed. Now children starve in the US, but that is from crack smoking parents not doing their job.

Very true. Many churches around here give a weeks worth of groceries, plus a hot meal to anyone who wants it. I worked at a fast food joint, and everything had a holding time. When the time ran out I would allways give it to someone who wanted it before I threw it away. Don't be afraid to ask and your belly won't be empty....

Yeah, you'll have to watch your Ps and Qs. Church and food banks are good and sometimes churches have free meals, in my experience the catholic church is the most generous. Try staying at homeless shelters instead of hostels they're much cheaper about $7.00 bucks a night, the only thing is once you're in there you have to stay in there till morning. Meals are usually included and every city has a homeless shelter.

If you're going to be a transient make sure to stop at Social Services in whatever cities or towns you frequent they have lists of soup kitchens and churches that serve free meals, if you hit it right you may be able to eat free every night of the week. You may also qualify for other benefits such as food stamps, medical etc.

Remember, the system is out there, make the system work for you!

If you're way out west you can always find a sleazy cheap $20 dollar a night motel, but homless shelters are cheapest!
