    It is mostly left to aesthetics and money. I look at this couple and I find neither one of them particularly attractive. Neither one have what I consider to make someone pretty or handsome. However, to me, he looks better. Her face needs more space for her expression.

    Plus she needs to dye her roots.
    They probably have a lot in common and common goals. Love can be reasonable. And they probably don't care too much about romance and all that.
