i usually do chicken fried rice, its so easy. i cook the rice ahead of time, but i use a steamer so it i just throw stuff in the pan thinger and turn it on, leav eit for a while (or have my fiance put it on so that the rice is done when i get home and i can cook supper up right away)... heat up some oil in a big wok. add in some chicken cut into small to medium chunks, cook over medium heat til no raw shows on the outside. add in some finely chopped onions and garlic (other seasoning i normally use is lime juice, soy sauce (kikkoman brand), pepper, a -tiny- amount of chili garlic sauce (lee kum kim brand), and some of this thai spice blend i picked up at the grocery), cook til onions are mostly clear then i add in some frozen mixed veggies (that shits freakin awesome), put the cooked rice on top of that, and usually add some finely chopped sweet bell pepper (red yellow or orange work best i find). stir til evenly distrubted, cook for a few mor eminutes... then (this is how my fiance likes it, you can stop before now if you want) i make a little well in teh centre of all the stuff in my wok, add 1 egg, and stir rapidly so that the egg coats a bunch of the rice n stuff, stir it all around lots, cook for a couple more minutes and ta-dah done.
I have a rice cooker that has a steamer on top, it's kick ass and I use it daily... I love adding tomatoes, onions and peppers with some stir fry sauce or really any type of sauce if any.. I also take black bean veggie burger and cut it up and mix it with rice and whatever veggies I want and stir it up and it is delicious as hell.. Or I make stuffed green peppers my version, which is packing the green peppers with cooked brown rice, tomatoes, and some stewed tomatoes, onions, red pepper, broccoli and some tomato sauce over it and cook it in the oven... I heart rice...
i just throw whatever in my rice. it never turns out bad. seasonings, veggies, throw some peanuts, coconuts and soy sauce on there. whatever.
I'm not all that great of just throwing things together. Haven't tried that many things in cooking. but hell, might as well. Ihave been trying that out lately with other things and it always turns out good. Then again, I like food.
just sniff the food, then sniff the seasoning or food you wanna put in there. if it smells good, try it.
I love that! My Mom and Grandma used to make it all the time. I wish my oven was working, I'll really love some of that right now.
Hells to the yeah you can... I also make a mean mean pasta salad filled with goodness... You should get a rice cooker those things are the shit..damn, I'm hungry now...well, I'm always hungry...
My kids LOVE this lentil rice taco filling...we eat it with sour cream, salsa, shredded lettuce, and cheese on flat breads. 3/4 cup dry lentils 3/4 cup brown rice 4 cups tap water 4 beef bouillon cubes 2 teaspoons chili powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder In a 2-quart saucepan bring the water to a boil. As the water is heating, add the lentils, rice, bouillon, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, and garlic powder. Bring the whole thing to a nice fat boil. Reduce the heat to low. Place a lid on the lentils and allow the mixture to simmer for about 45 to 50 minutes. This recipe is from www.hillbillyhousewife.com I've gotten a lot of good, cheap recipes from there...
i like rice boiled in coconut milk and water. add chopped apples and walnuts or pecans or something (not almonds though, they're too crunchy) unsalted if possible. add cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, whatever sweet spices you want. when complete, strain off any excess liquid and serve like oatmeal with either brown sugar, maple syrup or honey drizzled on top! trust me, this is one amazing breakfast cereal
Main Ingredients: 2 cups rice, cooked separately, 4 cups water, 1 whole chicken, 1 onion, 4-5 cloves garlic, diced. Sauce: 1-2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, 1/4 cup margarine, 2 cups reserved chicken broth, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1-2 teaspoons chili powder, 1-2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, 1/4 cup slivered almonds, corn tortillas, torn in pieces, 1 banana, chopped. Prepare rice. Boil chicken in water with onion and garlic until tender. (After boiling the onion, chop it and add to the sauce or discard.) Save the chicken broth and bone the chicken. For the sauce, melt the chocolate with the margarine. Add broth, cinnamon, and chili power. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Combine with sunflower seeds, almonds, torn up tortillas, banana, and onion, if desired. Serve over chicken pieces with rice. NOTE: If you substitute unsweetened cocoa powder for semi-sweet chocolate squares, use 3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa plus 4 to 5 1/2 teaspoons sugar.
Now I want rice, but I dont want to make it. I'll just eat a banana instead haha, so laaaazy I like making rice with cilantro and lime. I just cook the rice (brown basmati, because that's the one we always have), chop some cilantro, throw it in there and squeeze a lime or two, stir and eat
that's good, too. dave doesn't like cilantro, though. throw a little fresh diced tomato in there, it's good.
Funny, John doesnt like cilantro either. What's wrong with these guys?!?! I'll try it with the tomatoes
brown some chicken, set it aside, take a jar of artichoke hearts, put the fluid in the pan you browned the chicken in, and add either some chicken broth or water, and boil rice in it (or, boiling water with a chicken ramen pouch, or some chicken bullion, or you know, whatever) cook rice, add artichoke hearts, and chicken back in (you can cut up the chicken if you want, it all depends on how you plan eating it) refrigerates well, freezes poorly, makes acceptable leftovers.
lime and fresh cilantro (and a little salt, i'm bad about that) in rice is one of my favorites, especially served with beans cooked in garlic. maybe so me green onions (including most of the shoot, too) very very good but people who dont like cilantro aren't really people
They are ALIENS!!! I never ever use salt, to me that's something that doesnt exist in our kitchen. I love green onions and beans, how do you make does beans with the garlic? What kind of beans do you use? I've never cooked beans, never ever, that's a shame, me being Dominican, cooked beans are one of our main dishes. I use them in salads and things, the canned ones, but never have cooked any. Im scared to try.
