This is billy on garretts account, but im a hardcore rhcp fan. i have lately been listening to their old school funk, and really they dont have that same funk emotion as they did, the same punk and attitude, dont get me wrong they have matured and made some simply magnificent music, but i really have been digging some, uplift mofo party plan cd, or freaky styley, heck even mother milk has some good classics especially the newer edition of those old school classics. especially castles made of sand, and unreleased songs, check them out they are hidden jewels i swear it.

also check out havana affair, and the off the map dvd with john frusciante's usually just a t-shirt untitled #3.

Well I used to really like and respect The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, both as a band and for their music.

But, to me it feels like they sold out. They used to be a rap/funk band with a lot of originality and I think their new CD is more mainstream pop-ish. I skimmed through most of the album, and couldnt find one song I liked or one that had the same feeling of their old songs.

Hey, Well it's fair enough to say you don't like their new album but I don't believe they've sold out. I have been a fan for a while and my favourite album is BSSM and I love the funk ! From what I've seen and when I saw them play I think they still believe in their music and are making music they want to and thats what's important. Just because they are getting more popular and the style has changed slightly it doesn't mean they've sold out! Bands change, especially one thats been going as long as the chilis.
If you just skimmed the album why not try listening harder- you never know you might enjoy it! :)

I'm sorry but their new album makes me want to die. And that makes me sad because I love their old stuff...

i personally really like their new cd. it's obviously not as good as their older albums, but i'm glad it doesn't sound the same as all their old stuff. when bands sound the same in every album they put out, i tend to lose interest after a while. i like a band that can change their style (even slightly) and still sound just as good.

this is billy on my own account now, what i said before was all bunk, they did still keep the funk and displayed in on many different track like hump de bump, 21st century, charlie. but i really like how john plays alot like jimi hendrix throughout the cd, he really has influenced their sounds if you hear his solo music, you can really tell because he has been using alot of synthesizers on his solo stuff and they have been using that style since by the way, but this is like the perfect blend of by the way songs and californication songs. funk and mainstream rock with that electronica vibe to it.
