Totally untrue. The monarch has no power over parliament, that was entirely the point of the English civil war. The government can choose to resign but out of courtesy asks the monarch to allow a disolution of parliament. The monarch may ask the government to reconsider but can do nothing else. The monarch may use delaying tactics to force government to continue but that is usually considered unwise. The government will usually only resign if the monarch consents but the monarch cannot force a government to resign In Britain that would never happen because in Britain the army is paid by the government but gives alliegence to the monarch. The army would never stand down unless both the monarch and the government ordered it. The army is there to protect the monarch, but it serves the government, only if the monarchy were at war with the government would the army be brought into disarray
What the hell kind of cops do you have there? Around here they'd be glad to have the already-loose human rights regulations totally abolished. Why would they give up their guns and right to do whatever they please to anyone at any time?
my thought is this: if you're going to get rid of something you need a really clear vision and consensus on what you're going to replace it with, or how to prevent it from just comming beck in some other name. otherwise, and i'm not the first to point this out, you do just end up with the same crap or worse, after all that everyone goes through to try and make some big chainge happen. i'm not trying to say it can't be done, or deny that it needs to be. but it takes real thought and planing more then enthusiasm, willingness to take risks, suffer and risk suffering. revolutions tend to happen when people realize the're already under just as much pain as they risk getting envolved in one. i don't advocte violence because however effective in the sense of spectacular entertainment, the kinds of things i'd like to see happen just don't happen that way. it's all well and romantic to immagine that they do and wish that they would, but i've yet to see what to my heart and mind is real lasting and desirable change come out of them. the revolution that does need to take place is a major shift in core values and perceptions. without that, idiologies, beliefs, all the rest of it, are just window dressing. when core values chainge, chainge happens. when they don't, it's just the same old shift in new clothing. =^^= .../\...
The monarchy in the UK techinacally does have lots of power, but thats just a technicality. Its not used, and people would revolt if it was. (ps, arise ye workers from your slumbers an all that)
It's obvious that we need a revolution, but what is the definition of 'revolution' here? It differs for all of us. If you're hoping to start a revolution to overthrow President Bush or Tony Blair or whoever, forget it - it's not practical, not in our lifetimes anyway. Democracy isn't really a medium for change, that's just what they want you to believe. What we CAN do though is to initiate a mental revolution of sorts. Before anything can be done and before we can achieve visible results, there needs to be a mental revolution. Close-mindedness needs to stop. People need to be educated about how almost everything they believe is what society has forcefed into their heads. And if you really want a revolution why sit back, talk about it and wait for someone else to do the dirty work? If we really want a revolution, we should start thinking about how we're going to go about it. A mental revolution. Educating people about mind-altering substances. Spreading the universal message of love and peace. Exposing the flaws, hidden agendas and hypocrisies of the establishment. These are but a few of the many difficult tasks that would need to be undertaken. But thankfully there exist some very useful and effective media which can be used to spread these messages. Yeah you guessed them. Music is definitely one of them. Yeah I know this sounds all too familiar to the hippie era that we're all familiar with. But think about it, if it wasn't for the efforts of hippies in the '60s, would we think the way we do now? Probably not. In the same way, what we say and do today can help future generations effect change. But a revolution would take time and would require tons of sacrifice from all those involved. And nothing's going to happen if we all just sit back and wait for someone else to take charge. We need to be pro-active. Time is of the essence. Like-minded people need to gather and discuss the issues and the possible plans of action. It's not enough to keep posting messages on Hip Forums talking about how we can start a revolution. It's a start, but a start is all it is. If you've been posting messages in this thread, it means you probably support a revolution. However, my greatest hope is that we eventually actually get together and work towards change. But would you be willing to dedicate your entire life to such a cause? I know I would.
Before there can be a revoloution, there has to be a level of counciousness, so if you want a revolution, you better start spreading the ideas, and spreading the cause to make it a popular one.
That's exactly right Chris. Before any tangible gains can be made, the cause needs to be defined and then spread. People need to realise what's at stake and to that end, a mental revolution needs to be instigated.
agents of the revolution cause wholistic , maximum perception . the enemy strives to limit it . one need not attack the enemy , nor define what is to be perceived . one commits to the Intent . then , the art of peace follows free action .
Since first reading this thread I have been getting support for the revolution you are calling -Fidel Castro and a few other world leaders have pledged tanks and heavy artillery weapons and want all your troops to train with them - I can supply all the lemonade and crisps that the army might need as I have also got a famous confectioner behind us. So we have 4232 tanks 435 HA battlefield guns 22million pkt cheese and onion crisps and 337,000 bottles of lemonade etc etc - now all we need is 3/4million troops any offers ?
i have exactly that many troops that are my friends . and all these troops are at your service - conditionally ... they are resistant to training .
How will the revolution counter reactionaries and how will it avoid divide and conquer (those who will try to implement discord)? Who is the enemy? because every revolution has enemies. How will the revolution detect and counter those who will try to undermine the success of it and makes it ineffective?
True it is a word that's thrown around carelessly. In my mind the only practical revolution at this point of time would be a mental revolution, the spreading of a certain level of consciousness so to speak.
Agreed, if a mental revolution does not proceed a physical one, the later will only cause more harm then good.
I suggest we hand out sim cards to the south american peoples that way when they are rich enough to own mobile phones they can invite us to bring some cans of petrol, bottles, and rag, to their party - but wait - why dont we stop being bourgeois pretentious overstuffed westerners and go there before we are invited - we can help them overthrow the elitist aristocrats that starve the poor peoples kids to death. Hey I know lets talk about hollywood BURN IT DOWN TINSEL TOWN thats incase you like your revolution on vinyl I like mine in the streets battling with the police on the front lines down parliament square I want my revolution Nihilist none of that bourgeois crap like the socialist worker party Paul Foot used to be their leader - his granddad used to be the prime minister - how revolutionary is that? theyre over fed fuckin wankers never trust a socialist or a communist be a nihilist or a anarchist
We need a social revolution in order to stop big corporations and out-of-control governments from infringing on the rights of individuals. Revolutions of this type are already going on in many parts of the world, for example- the pro-democracy rallies in nepal, women's rights marches in Bangladesh, and the famous job employment protection protests in France. America and Britain also need to join this world wide struggle to protect the liberties that we have, Here in the U.S. we have a we have a fight about eminent domain where you can't buy a home or a piece of land without the risk of your real estate being seized by the county or city goverment and then being turned over to large-scale contrators for private development, and there are many other violations going on which are equally disturbing. Yes, we need a revolution to defend the common individual from the powerful politicians and corporations. Let's stand together and have our voices heard.
Governing bodies are the enemy, or one of them. I'm all for revolution; it takes out the trash, purges the shit, and renews formerly stagnant systems. I think they're as normal as healthy as forest fires. But that's where the problem lies--not in how to overthrow what...but in what to do afterwards, what to replace the current government with. Odds are, it will go back to the way it was before, eventually; changing leaders doesn't help. Saying you're now communist or socialist or democratic doesn't change much for very long. The foundations are rotten. I think we need something a bit more drastic than a revolution...
If you could all just get into having a revolucion rather than sitting in the comfort of your lovely centrally heated graves, I would believe this thread had a point, but since the majority of you want to own a car and have a good salary and a decent education - it hardly seems compatible with your desire for revolucion. just how much have you thought this through? how long out of your lives do you think a revolucion will take to establish a situation in which an economy is normalised - by which time you will be well past wanting a revolucion and wished mommy was there to kiss the pain away like she used to. Dont come running to me when granny gets mown down by a GI with a 100 roundPer second, machine gun - she will have to lob grenades too - theres no old age pensioner homes in a revolucion I tip my hat, you are a first class wit sir, and destined for a life of laughter and plenty - I look forward to more
