White Stripes and The Strokes kick-ass and at least to me alot of the Strokes shit doesn't sound retro. PLus, not all retro sounding bands suck You have to admit JET is pretty good and retro-ish

    Not live theyre not.

Besides, I think it has something to do with the fact that it IS retro. Their new song sounds exactly like Gimmie Some Lovin by Spencer Davis Group with different words

The Strokes are awesome, they were on tour with the Rolling Stones and my friend saw the show he said it was amazing.

I really like the Vines and the White Stripes as well, but not the Hives, I think they suck. The Vines I think are underrated, I have both of their albums (Highly Evolved and Winning Days) and they are both really, really good. I know everyone wants to hate, "THE" bands but if you listen to them they each have their own distinct sound.

I mean you can tell what their influences were, Velvet Underground (whom I love) with the Strokes, Nirvana influencing the Vines, and I think the White Stripes have a very unique sound, and I am very picky when it comes to music. Most of my stuff is emo, screamo, or punk, I hate pop punk posers like Yellowcard, Sum 41, and Simple Plan, I can't stand Nickelback, or any of those other shitty bands, anyway I am going to stop going on and on now becasue I cannot put a good paragraph togethar like I planned.

I would have more respect for the vines if they could come up with the goods live... but they cant. If the only good stuff is on their albums, then it certainly says a lot about them.

As for the stokes, they put on an awesome show, it was one of the best live acts I have ever seen and I had a really great time. I have always liked the strokes and needed no convincing, they just grabbed me up the moment I saw them on telly

i think more retro bands should have a 60s "nuggets" sound...

like all the retro revival bands of the 80s. bands like the fuzztones, chesterfeild kings, and the barracudas.

No, I don't have to admit that because it isn't true. Jet is a shitty wannabe AC/DC cover band, the Strokes DO sound retro, and yes all retro sounding bands right now suck.

    Retro-revival?

Can I have a list of examples, please?

Looking at some of the mentioned, I think I like this 'genre'. The White Stripes, The Vines, The Killers, The Datsuns, The Hives? I like all those.. although, I can't personally stand The Strokes or The Libertines.

I could be getting some of these completely wrong, but I'm assuming these are the kinds of bands the thread starter was talking about?

On Jet: Is "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" a cover, or does it just sound an awful lot like an Iggy Pop song? :/
