Tips were meant as a gift for Nice service when it began. Around here they talk about tipping to rule, as in a percentage whether you like the service or not and if you dont meet that percentage they might remember your face and next time you return a special note might go into the kitchen with your order,,, Spit on my food will ya.... So now I have little interest in eating out compared to before I read stuff like that on forums and news articles. Tipping out, when I did go out lots I always thought, as it was many years ago, that I was tipping the server so even if my steak sucked I tipped on the service presented in front of me. Mostly because I know the cook makes more and he/she does not have to rely on his/her, speed accuracy and smiles for wages. Turns out this "tipping out" doesnt only cover the cook but in some cases even the owners are found having dipped into it. Screw that! This is why its expected by the servers now. The server could go home with less then they started the day with because the owners are allowed to pay under min wage,,, it aint 2 bucks as shown on that news print I am sure, but now he expects us, his customers to cover wages he should cover, then he might even be taking from it too! "Tipping out" is aimed at the server. She/he must cover a loss in percentage to whats sold that shift,,, so lets say the cook had a bad day and sent crap out to the floor all day. Why should the cook still get covered by his/her work mate when that server probably did all they could to take care of many tables with many different personalities and attitudes that walked in all day??? Dont get it, wont have my food spat on, learned to love our cooking at home much more now. Best of all,,, when I want to pass someone a gift as a gift or for doing something nice I do it as I see fit now, not to rule. As for what that woman wrote in that news print... If you really didnt make a cent,,, yer not that dumb, get a real job, let the owner sling his own crap for nothing, sheesh! There are a lot of work choices out there requiring the same level of education where you get a wage if education is what made you work for this creep! You can do better. And for those who say its not about having a lack of education, you say you just love the job,,,, sure, you love working for free or next to nothing, let the lousy owner sling his own crap for nothing. I did so many different things in my different jobs, cant say I hated any, loved many of those jobs and have always had a promising wage I walked into and recieved till I moved on to something else. Never ever did I pay out to someone else because my day was crappy, not even a penny,,, Thats just unreal!
Yep. BTDT. Yep. BTDT. Ya drive on roads with so much snow NO ONE in their right mind is driving, with your truck in “4 High”, and then they whine about free delivery if it’s not there in 15 minutes or less, failing to remember that 15 minutes or less is not used in times of bad weather, on-route construction or excessive traffic. If they don’t like having to tip the driver, then I suggest go buy a pizza at the grocery store and do it themselves. Pussies. Nah, first place I trained at was a Denny’s. Rarely did any of the guys there get more than a couple bucks. We had a variety of problems in the area- racial (Native Americans that hate white man), drunks after the bars close, stuff like that. I picked working graveyard because I really don’t like the hustle bustle of rush hour. Graveyard always has those drawbacks. Except at that one café I was head cook at, there were a few times I’d pull extra shifts because no one else can fill in. And then this snippy little 18 year old “thing” with tits comes in to wait tables and all she can do is bitch bitch bitch because she’s got family from out of town and has to fill in for a waitress that didn’t show, failing to understand that she may be working her whiney little ass off, but I already pulled half of an afternoon/evening shift, then typical graveyard full shift, and then having to cover a full morning shift. When I got done I got a sweet bonus (pulling 22+ hours because a shift and a half we had no one) from the boss, and a lecture. And that thing was asked not to come back (one benefit my boss gave me that next day- the luxury of watching her give that “thing” the ax, gawd it was beautiful!). Some jobs tip and some don’t. As graveyard cook a tip is nice, but I’m already pulling a better than typical full wage because of experience. The wait staff have a responsibility to the customer- no matter what, they are the final “check station” for the food. Is it what the customer wants or not? Is it just right, or not? Tips are not supposed to make a difference on if they can do their job. It's a reward (as awful as it may sound, it's true) for doing better than average.
We had that problem too but we charged a delivery fee it the order was outside of a certain area. The driver always got that fee. It was fair because you could easily do 4 or 5 deliveries in the time it took to do the longer delivery. What's shitty is the places that charge a delivery fee and then don't give it to the driver. But my job wasn't bad at all. Delivering on a college campus is probably a lot more fun than an average town. We stayed open until 4 am on the weekends and believe me....anything can happen. It got pretty wild sometimes.
in my experience, those were some of the best tippers. because, you know, they were too drunk to know better than to spend all of their money on a tip. i've seen a drunk guy give a pizza guy a stalk of homegrown weed that probably amounted to a $100 value tip before. oh i believe you, the college campus was the first place i ever delivered too. nothing quite like that "big sausage pizza" porn site, but i saw pretty much everything short of it.
Like the college chick that's naked as a jay bird except for the slices of pizza she slaps over her bush...? Oh yeah!
my drug dealer used to deliver pizza. if he delivered to a party he would ask the guy if they needed any bud, and would often make sales at the door haha.
It seems as if I remember that some years back, wait staff had to pay 8% on their tickets for taxes, whether they got tipped or not. Don't know if it's still true.

It's much harder now that they've all been earthquake retrofitted! They do a much better job of bolting them.....
State laws may vary, but the federal minimum wage is 2.13. Every server I know either gets 2.13 or 0.00. The ones that aren't paid survive solely on tips, and aren't legally employed, but the tips are good enough that they don't care.
if you delivered the pizza quickly enough, she would have burnt her vagina with the hot cheese... really, i don't think i ever saw bush during a delivery. i think the funniest nudity incident was when a bunch of guys i was delivering to convinced this girl that if she took off her shirt, i would give them the pizza for free. so she did, and within seconds campus security had a flashlight on her boobs. i do feel a little bad that she probably got in trouble, for no real reason (since they had already paid me anyway). but it made for a good story at least. that's pretty crappy. here, tipped employees get paid at least half of minimum wage. but either way, both here in ohio and at the federal level, the actual minimum wage is the minimum cash plus tips wage for tipped employees as well, meaning that if you make $2.13 an hour and don't get any tips, the restaurant is required to pay you the difference between $2.13 and minimum wage. not that that's a lot of money, but the person writing the article seems to imply that if you don't tip her, she leaves the restaurant with zero dollars, which isn't true unless she is working for an illegal employer.
I tip like a madman. Just tipped $12 on a $10 tab. I always do that because most of my gf's have been servers and I have an understanding of what kind of abuse they go through from pompous and insecure customers who view them as less than human. The thing is also if you tip well, at least in a place you frequent, you will eventually start to notice personalized service and things like free drinks or better meals. Even at places like moe's I tip at least a few bucks. But if I am sitting down somewhere and being waited on, a bar or restaurant.. $10 minimum regardless of tab. I've tipped $20 on under $10 many times.
I always tip. If the service is bad it isn't to much maybe a couple of dollars. Usually I tip five dollars on a 10 to 15 dollar tab. If I go to like a Sonic I always tip a dollar even if it is just a drink order. Just before Christmas I ordered food at a drive in and tipped the girl twenty dolaars because she was out in the snow working and still was trying to make the best smiling to her customers. I told her Merry Christmas .She was very grateful.
