I was brought up in the South Bronx on St. Ann's Avenue opposite St Mary.s Park. between 148th and 149th Street, until I was 13- It was later called Fort Apache. I have many great memories sliding down the big rock in the park & the many times I was brought to the playground by my Mom. .We played knock hockey in the game room and spent hours in the carpentry shop. I Good memories, but, do I miss them ? No!- But I appreciate them all. I remember trips to the Jersey Shore- which might be why I finally ended up making a home for myself (and family) here- - Loved the city, but summers we we lucky enuff to spend by the ocean- I do remember 1 big event though- When I was 14 or 15 yrs old The Beatles make their first appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. My Dad was screaming" What is that noise?"- They all need haircuts"- This is the beginning if the end- LOL- He thought we were doomed-
Hi Jack. We watched the Beatles on Ed Sullivan too. I was upset about all the girls screaming and you could not hear the music. I really don't remember my parents reaction. I did lose my allowance for a month though for purchasing the album Meet the Beatles. My dad considered that a waste of money.
