I think they should teach about about all religons unless their paraent says otherwise. They need to know how it affects people.
religion is outdated it was good in those times is time to move on we know the earth is not flat and jesus, moses and all of them are dead and not coming back and neither is Napoleon or Jimi Hendrix are coming back.
If parents are stupid enough to keep their kids from learning about other religions, have them home-school or something.
nothing wrong with that the more they learn about other religion the more they can compare and realise what a bunch of crap it all is.
Odessa, Texas, School Board Votes to Add Bible Class as Elective in High School Curriculum The Associated Press Published: Apr 27, 2005 ODESSA, Texas (AP) - The school board in this West Texas town voted unanimously to add a Bible class to its high school curriculum. Hundreds of people, most of them supporters of the proposal, packed the board meeting Tuesday night. More than 6,000 Odessa residents had signed a petition supporting the class. Some residents, however, said the school board acted too quickly. Others said they feared a national constitutional fight. Barring any hurdles, the class should be added to the curriculum in fall 2006 and taught as a history or literature course. The school board still must develop a curriculum, which board member Floy Hinson said should be open for public review. The board had heard a presentation in March from Mike Johnson, a representative of the Greensboro, N.C.-based National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, who said that coursework designed by that organization is not about proselytizing or preaching. But People for the American Way and the American Civil Liberties union have criticized the council, saying its materials promote religion. Johnson said students in the elective class would learn such things as the geography of the Middle East and the influence of the Bible on history and culture. "How can students understand Leonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper' or Handel's 'Messiah' if they don't understand the reference from which they came?" Johnson said. The group's Web site says its curriculum has received backing in 292 school districts in 35 states. In Frankenmuth, Mich., a similar proposal led to a yearlong controversy before the school board voted in January not to offer such a course. --- On the Net: National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools: http://www.bibleinschools.net People for the American Way: http://www.pfaw.org AP-ES-04-27-05 0902EDT
Indeed; I can't get over how ridiculous "health" and "sex" education is... Teaching us what a healthy diet is? What sex is? Isn't that the parent's job? *thinks back to an episode of South Park, and laughs*
Please!!! Our schools have a tough enough time as it is teaching English, math, history and all of those other subjects without adding on "moral standards." Besides, whose moral standards would they be? I get this sick and uncomfortable feeling when people ask the schools to teach "moral standards" that what they mean is they want the schools to teach *their* moral standards" and nobody else's. Give me a break, for crying out loud. I do not give you any permission whatsoever to inflict your "moral standards" on my child. Moreover, I ask you to stay as far away as possible from my child as possible.
What the hell? Ok, let's get the obvious over with. "YES" it is up to the parents to teach their children everything about life! Everyone happy now? Now, how do you think schools came about? Eventually parents simply got to busy, trying to help their family survive, that they didn't have time to educate their children. Heck, some of the parents weren't educated enough to try. So the community gets together and decides that it would be beneficial to simply gather all the kids up in one place and select somebody worthy to teach them. School was not created by a government that told people what the children will be taught. Schools were created by parents to teach children what they wanted them to know. They not only taught the basic subjects, but they also taught the accepted and practiced community religion. However, due to so many people eventually renouncing their religion, we ended up with private and public schools in order to keep church and state separated. This, of course, ruined the community bond and social interaction. You had one group being taught differently then another. Now, you have many kids growing up with low morals and little or no self worth. This shows by schools needing solutions to weapons control and how so many students can't pass the basic skills test. Parents are trying to fix the problem by once again putting religion back in to schools to try and restore some sense of morals and self worth. Parents have always controlled what happens in the schools. Whether they choose to get involved is completely up to them though.
lets teach the kids about the wich hunts . or about the pope not saying or doing anything about the jews in 1942 . im sure the jews have done a few screw ups of theyr own. and we dont need to mention the muslims we allready know enough.
Bzzzzzzz... Wrong! As I mentioned, schools were started to teach children about the community religion as well as math, english, etc... because the parents no longer had the time to do it themselves. Children learned right from wrong and other community values as well. Parents were in charge of what their children learned so they indeed got their parenting requirements met as well. Parents just had to reinforce what the children learned which was more managable after 16 hour days in the field. But, since people like you exist fuzzy, we had to take this type of teaching out of the schools and now we have a bunch of dickhead punks running around who have no social values. The old days aren't much different from today. Parents have to work and don't have time to teach everything fully. Since schools don't teach this stuff anymore, children don't get their social values. Yeah, great idea man!
I would argue that children and other people "running around" do indeed have social values, even if they are--as mhr puts it--"dickhead punks." There are community values, but there are more and more communities around and their values are not the same. What I object to as strenuously as possible is the idea that one person or group can say that the schools should teach *their* values. My values may not necessarily be the same as somebody else's, but I don't go around saying that the public schools which my money goes for have to inculcate my values. I just humbly ask that I be given the very same respect that I give everyone else.
Oh... fuzzy wuzzy... whats the problem? If they had to teach to religion in school it would be by a vote and majority vote wins. And my remark about "leave the country" meant that it's a free country and you can choose to leave this country if it practices a different religion then you believe. You can also choose to stay and start an entirely different school that teaches your religion. But no fuzzy.. you'd rather just bitch and whine. Go back to selling stuff to people already in debt and then put them back in to debt after you get your money from them.
Hmmm isn't one of the Amendments freedom of religion? And wouldn't that mean ALL religions? Trying to turn an entire country to one religion just ends up taking that religion and putting it at a higher level, and the way that you are suggesting it mhr with leaving the country contridicts the concept of freedom of religion. A religion class in school would be nice. Not one for every religion, but a general one that teaches about all religions. And not pushing any of them. You want morality to be taught in schools then start off by teaching equality in everysense of the word. Including not practicing religionism (like racism and sexism... I don't know what the word actually is for it.)
Many people have a very good life in a double wide trailer and many live a miserable life in a half a million dollar home.
Actually, this is not true. The beauty of America is that it has taken constitutional measures to make sure no minority is oppressed by the majority (majority oppression is why many people pilgrimed to the "new world" in the first place, and made these constitutional measures - ie Bill of Rights). Not to say that the country didn't have a double standard when it came to this (slavery, etc...). Asking people who don't like America to leave is extremely un-American. The true patriots of this country stand up for what they believe in. They exercise their freedoms. They work to keep this county a country of and for the people. I don't want our patriots to leave, regardless if I always agree with their ideals.
Yes. Right. And you obviously have no idea what I was getting at or any fucking thing about my upbringing. Shut up.
Most people in big city rat life have no time to waste in a church . most rather see a movie,go to the beach, barbecue party, etc. rest and kick back and watch the lunatic religius freak kill each other on a plasma screen with home surround system on. and a good beer +wine or a joint or all 3 of them. and laugh.
