Referring to the bolded phrase: you have clearly never smoked weed, hahaha! You have that bass ackwards. Also, there is no conclusive evidence hormone levels are affected, or that it has an adverse effect on immune system functioning (some studies show marked improvement in white blood cell action when exposed to THC). Marijuana smoke is also healthier than tobacco smoke, since there are no chemical additives and usually no pesticide on it. Yeah, it's not healthy to inhale smoke of any kind, i'll give you that, but it's not really equivalent to tobacco. Anyways, it is very unlikely the ancients viewed hemp/marijuana as bad in any way. It was one of the things that gave humans civilization. Sails, ropes, cloth, nets, and many many other basic products were made from it, along with a great food source...and a product that gave a person a mystical experience, bringing them closer to the gods (almost all cultures have revered some sort of mind altering product for that reason).
So now laughing is irresponsible!? Or maybe laughing is only irresponsible if you have bloodshot eyes at the time. Ironically, that makes me laugh. Or perhaps if you used some mind altering substance, that is what is irresponsible. Hmmm. . . there are hundreds of legal, helpful, mind altering medications. So if mind altering and responsible have no place in the same sentence do you oppose the use of all psychiatric medication? Propaganda zombies are fun. Do you all remember thoes anti-weed adds that they ran a couple of years back. The ones claiming that if you ever smoke weed even once you will get pregnant, murder your friends, and become a terrorist? Man, talk about mind altering. Buying into that kind of brainwashing is far more dangerous than taking a toke or two.
You know something cool? Before I started smoking cigarettes, I had very bad allergies and asthma. After I started to smoke, I noticed an improvement in my allergies/asthma. Whenever I quit smoking for a while (for whatever reason), my allergies come back. I find that if I smoke, my lungs feel a little bit healthier, I don't get hay fever from everyday life. Smoking probably doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me. I am sure God is happy that you know God's will. I mean, God didn't invent tobacco or weed for people to enjoy, God invented it to tempt people into death!!! God is always trying to trick me into doing stuff that will kill me... Gotta watch out for that God character. I've got a sign outside my house that says "Beware of God".
HOLY SHIT! just yesterday i was giggling over a mental image of a "beware of god" sign on someone's fence. nice you brought it up. anyway, i think everything was created for a reason. i think disregarding the beneficial effects of soemthing just because of it's potentially deleterious effects is a crime against god's creation. after all, too much water can be bad for you, too. as for references to weed in the bible, big deal. god made it. god didn't intend for us to ignore it.
jesus turned water to wine at the wedding, last time i checked wine is mind altering, yet it was used resonsibly (i dont think the disciples were picking fights with each other and puking), so if alcohol can be used responsibly why not marijuana or even cocain.
Marijuana also has it's medicinal properties. Let's not forget that. Tobacco has no medicinal properties, neither does alcohol. Using marijuana for medical reasons is no different than taking tylenol to fix a headache, except that the smoking is not good for your lungs. If Marijuana were legal, you could probably buy the THC in pill form quite easily. And if this were the case, people would smoke it a lot less. Less damage to their body that way. And yes, there would still be people who abuse the pill form but there are people that abuse just about anything they can, like people who take handfuls of tylenol or codeine or cough syrup or whatever. The rule of moderation applies here. So in my opinion, weed isn't really bad, the only reason a Christian should not smoke it or take the pill form as long as it is in moderation is because they would not be respecting the laws of their land. God doesn't appreciate a Christian disrespecting the laws of the land they choose to live in, usually. And I would think that it would be better for the Christian to take the pill form, as it is less damaging to their bodies.
There is a passage in the bible that says you can have the herbs of the land, thing is its talking about EATING soif you want to EAT your pot go ahead
Wine was nothing more then grapes back then, wasn't as acholic if i'm not mistaken. It does say a LITTLE bit of wine can be good for you. It also says to much wine is a mocker*i think it was mocker* point is don't be a drunk. Wine can actuly be healthy. Its like choco though it can also be bad for you.
Lucky for you guys i've done extensive research into the reference of marijuana in ancient documents, particularly those of a religious nature- including the bible. so here are a few.. umm i think i'm gonna need a few posts for this. "In the Judaic world, the vapors from burnt spices and aromatic gums were considered part of the pleasurable act of worship. In proverbs (27:9) it is said that 'Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart.' Perfumes were widely used in Egyptian worship. Stone altars have been unearthed in Babylon and Palestine, which have been used for burning incense made of aromatic wood and spices. While the casual readers today may interpret such practices as mere satisfaction of the desire for pleasant odors, this is almost certainly an error; in many or most cases, a psychoactive drug was being inhaled. In the islands of the Mediterranean 2,500 years ago and in Africa hundreds of years ago, for example leaves and flowers of a particular plant were often thrown upon bonfires and the smoke inhaled; the plant was marijuana."
The name cannabis is generally thought to be of Scythian origin. Sula Benet in Cannabis and Culture argues that it has a much earlier origin in Semitic languages like Hebrew, occurring several times in the Old Testament. He states that in Exodus 30:23 that God commands Moses to make a holy anointing oil of myrrh, sweet cinnamon, kaneh bosm, and kassia. He continues that the word kaneh bosm is also rendered in the traditional Hebrew as kannabos or kannabus and that the root "kan" in this construction means "reed" or "hemp", while "bosm" means "aromatic". He states that in the earliest Greek translations of the old testament "kan" was rendered as "reed", leading to such erroneous English translations as "sweet calamus" (Exodus 30:23), sweet cane (Isaiah 43:24; Jeremiah 6:20) and "calamus" (Ezekiel 27:19; Song of Songs 4:14). Benet argues from the linguistic evidence that cannabis was known in Old Testament times at least for its aromatic properties and that the word for it passed from the Semitic language to the Scythians, i.e. the Ashkenaz of the Old Testament.
Exodus 24:15 "And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. 16 And the glory of the Lord abode upon Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. Scriptures make it abundantly clear that the clouds and the smoke are related to the burning of incense. Exodus 40:26 describes Moses burning incense, a cloud covering the tent of the congregation and the glory of the Lord filling the tabernacle. Leviticus 16:2-13 describes how God appeared in a cloud and refers to it as the clouds of incense. Numbers 16:17-19 describes how every man of the congregation had a censer full of burning incense and that the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation. Isaiah 6:4 describes how Ezekial saw God in a smoke-filled inner court. Numbers 11:25 describes how God was revealed to moses and the seventy elders in a cloud; that the spirit rested upon them and that they prophesied and ceased not.
Notice how that was jewish practices, not christian. I do not once recall Peter or Paul somking a joint before he went out to preach. Also notice that it is oil, the put oil on their head. Not once does it mention smoking pot.
Alcohol in Bible times compared to alcohol today: Words often change in meaning with the passing of time. For example, dancing in the Old Testament, and tongues in the New Testament meant very different things from what it generally means today. The wine of Bible times was low in alcohol content (usually ranging from 2 to 6%). The highest concentration of alcohol possible with primitive methods of fermentation is 14% (yeast cells die at this level of alcohol concentration). However, attempts to achieve such high concentrations usually led to other unwanted bacterial processes which produced a sour, vinegary wine! Furthermore, wine in Bible times in Palestine was usually drunk diluted (Proverbs 9:2-5, Revelation 14:10). The Greeks considered those who drunk diluted wine as barbarians. The word "wine" usually meant diluted wine, so that those desiring undiluted wine had to specifically order "unmixed wine". Often, wine was boiled to produce a syrup (without alcohol because boiling removed the alcohol) which was then mixed with water to produce a refreshing drink. Because a huge volume of this low-alcohol wine had to be drunk to produce intoxication, wine was not generally drunk for this purpose but rather as a refreshing and hygienic drink (which had the ability to destroy diarrhea-causing bacteria - see 1 Timothy 5:23.) About seven hundred years ago the process of distillation (i.e. concentration of alcohol) was invented and the word "wine" has since described a substance quite different from that described in the Bible. Today's commercial alcohol can reach an alcohol concentration of 75%! Brandy, whisky, rum and gin are about 40%, most commercial "fortified" wines (e.g. sherry, port) are between 16 to 20%, while beer and stout are between 3 to 8%. Wine today is not produced nor drunk primarily as a pleasant, hygienic drink but as an intoxicant that numbs man's reason and reduces him to the level of an unthinking beast. Wine-producing in Bible times was a cottage industry with low capacity (implied by the unavailability of obtaining wine for the marriage feast in Cana as in John 2) and wine was not freely available to the common people, nor was there any strong promotion of wine-drinking as a desirable lifestyle. Today, the liquor industry is huge. In the United Kingdom, alcohol sales total half that spent on food! Its intoxicating effects are the cause of half of all the crimes committed there - including half of the murders, child abuse, and wife battering. In the United States, between 10 to 16 million, children live in homes destroyed by alcohol. Alcohol is the most destructive of all addictive substances ever used by mankind - dwarfing opium, heroin, marijuana, tobacco etc. No such problem existed in Bible times because the substance then called wine was so different, less available, and less desirable. MMM power of google don't ya just love it :-D
