seems more reliant on the source of energy more than use of energy. we are bathed in energy radiating from the sun all day every day. more energy than we could use right now.

If the bureaucrats could think of a way to charge a huge fee for us using the sun we'd have been using solar energy for a long time and its technology and infrastructure supporting it would be very robust... just look at how petroleum is accommodated. We ain't gonna see jack shit until the establishment figures out a way to make an obscene mountain of cash from it.

They can just move our electric meters over to our solar array:patriot:

All you need is a law taxing the generation of electricity.

Just think how exciting police searches will become..... Bring in the dogs to find your rechargeable batteries.

Some places have this check valve that is brass and copper , they put them in a metal cage that is bolted to the ground to prevent it from being stolen . In Arizona we have the rattle snake , but it dont hang around in the cities . A theif might get a few bucks for something that might cost a thound or more for a plumber to replace . desert rat

I picked up a broken snowblower yesterday for $3...Ill be fixing it and recycling it into $300

picked up a tank too for $2...looks like a 100 pound propane but was used for foam propellent ...ill be recycling that into either a usefull airpig tank or maybe mount it under my truck and finally hook up my airhorns to scare the crap out of people

That's sweet. What are the horns off?

I'd like the necessary tank and horns to turn my sub-compact into a union-pacific.

Very true. The only reason we are dependent on petroleum is because it's what makes the right people the most money. The first combustion engine ran on peanut oil. In 41 Henry Ford built a car made from natural fibers, and it ran on hemp oil. All but the frame was completely biodegradable.....The technology is there but they won't let us have it.

Back to the topic.....modern landfills are actually pretty nice. They are Extremely well contained, and the land can be reused. They are covered by parks, and golf courses a lot of the time. While producing enough electricity to power an entire town. I learned today that one of the local Ford Plants is powered by a landfill. This plant is big enough for its own area code, full of state of the art technology.

This is true, the tech that makes the most money is used, and the one that makes the most money usually does so because it's NOT the optimal solution, and has obstacles that must be overcome with money.

Now it's true you can get gas from landfills.... It's true that they needen't destroy land.... But that's not how it's usually done, nomatter what a TV show playing the devil's advocate showed. I know my local dump sucks.

It would be possible to EVEN farm landfills, if they where giant composts. But the fact is that people throw away horrible things, and even very poisonous AND rare things. No matter how much easier it is to mine new metal, for instance, it's retarded to throw away a non-renewable resource, and reduce it to standard crust concentrations. The world and moving it forward (yes, in green directions too) depends on a few rare metals, like copper, gold, platinum, etc. These are all things that you can find in most dumpsters.

Some of my more recent dumpster finds (mind you, I have official permission to raid these, imagine whats in rich peoples who would release the hounds on my poor dumpster-divin' ass) include a TV that works fine, an xbox that works fine with all accessories, piles of brand new NASA T-shirts( or they woulda been new in 89.... never worn, though) many many pounds of copper wire that I cut off things and will recycle when I get enough, all manner of electronics of the same fate, the clothes I'm currently wearing, A laptop bag with minimal damage, now housing a friends laptop, a vaccum cleaner, sealed puppy formula my friends used on their puppy to no ill effect......... And we're just gettin' started.

All things that should NOT be in a landfill, but can and should be re-used or recycled.

Also, roller skates, for the slightly smaller size bearing than found in modern skates, needed to refurbish my 80's skateboard's deteriorating wheels.

I am a self emploied repairman , I save a lot of what most would call junk. When work is slow , I go through my stuff . I take the usable metal steel , copper , brass , ect and get money for it . It keeps me eating . Before the economy went bad I would find lots of old computers , monitors , printers , ect. Its fun to see what people leave on there hard drive . Any one that says that recycling does not pay , or is not fun is full of s*** . Unless there thinking about the metal thives . Stolen a/cs , copper water lines , even wire in light poles is a problem . That is steeling not recycling tho. desert rat

This is a different story. I was talking more along the lines of regular household recycling. Like paper and plastic. Salvaging metals can be very benificial, however the average household does not participate in this type of recycling.

Paper and plastic are both recycled . I dont know about other parts of the USA or the world , but hear ( Phoenix AZ US) they will pay a little for plastic bottles . Some people make extra money by digging bottles and cans out of the trash . With paper it is like a few bucks a ton , so its not worth the effort . desert rat

The lesson I took, was to investigate personally what your local recycling center does with each material. Put in what is most efficient with your local capabilities, and every thing else should be kept in the trash. Reuse everything you can, but weigh your trash issues with science, rather than what "anyone" tells you to do
