The Humanure Handbook: A Guide to Composting Human Manure by Joseph Jenkins - This book really made me smile, cos its so true. Why don't we put our own poo on to compost heaps... think how much we'd save on water bills and sewage plants? Plus environmentally there would be no contamination from sewage outlets into seas, there'd be no water shortages either. Overall i think everyone should read this book.
I've read Jonathan Livingston Seagull, i was all of abt 10 i think, but a lovely book, my maths teacher wanted me to read it so badly i couldnt find a way out!
I think given the amount of chemical crap that's in our diet, using human poo would be a serious contaminant to the soil....
yeah i read that a while ago, thought it was really good too with some credible ideas, especialy the shift in the equality of male n female. a book i thinks really nice and deffinatly worth a read if u havnt already is jonathon livingstone seagull by robert bach. one of my all time favs that is.
hmm just read back thru some posts and mines pretty identical to dablos post. jonathon livingston seagull is brilliant though so if u havnt read it yet u really should. a book i really wanna read is, i think its called "centre of the cyclone" or summin like that by john c lilly, but the libary dosnt have it. anyone got a copy they could lend me?? i promise to return it. as far as i know its experiments with lsd in a sensory deprevation tank.
Heylo, here's some i recommend: Fear & Loathing in las vegas - Hunter S. Thompson The Doors Of Perception - Aldous Huxley (what "The Doors" were named after, u kno?!) Island - Aldous Huxley (in fact, anything by Aldous Huxley, the man is a god) Z For Zachariah - Robert C. O'Brien 1984 - George Orwell Anyone else an aldous huxley nut???!!
yeah fear n loathin is good, i reckon the film does a good represention of the book though unlike most films
O definitely... its a great film and totally gets the feel of the book... but of course it would having Terry Gillingham as director..
Thom Hartman "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight" certainly has you thinking. I think it's a little optomistic near the end, which is great because most of the book has you thinking how hopeless things are! "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" should be given to every child old enough to be asking about death. Well, maybe not the whole book but an abridged version! In my opinion it is a HUGELY important book, one of the most important that I have read.
Hmmm, I can't believe I just read this entire thread and not seen 1 mention of Jeanette Winterson, personally i'd recommend any of her books for reading (not that i've read them all). Her style of writing is one that challenges you mind, imagination and your literary skills. Especially I would reccomend 'The Passion' and 'Sexing the Cherry', and if you like a good love story then 'The Powerbook'. Other than Jeanette Winterson i'd recommend (trumpet music please) ... 'The Colour Purple' - Alice Walker 'The Beach' - Alex Garland 'The Farseer Trilogy' - Robin Hobb 'The Liveship Trilogy' - Robin Hobb And almost predictably 'The Lord Of The Rings' - J.R.R Tolkien, I know that most people have either read, or heard of this as a book, but it really is that good.
i just finished a book called the time wasters letters which was quite amusing, cant remember who it was by though. im a bit crap like that. its a guy who rights stupid letters askin advice etc to various companys and there responces. its the letters and responces printed in a book basically. worth a go if u see it.
