There was a TV show about some rednecks who catch gators and sell their skin, for a living.
They even eat the meat.

 

Yea, it's a thing. They are abundant in the Southeastern US. At least they eat them instead of just taking their skin.

Ugly and tacky model, but the skin is nice.

Someone gave me an alligator purse once, years ago and I never used it, I thought it was tacky even tho I heard someone else say they probably paid a pretty buck for it. Don't even know what happened to it.
