Do me a favor Mel and never address me in any thread ever again, "please and thank you". I've never come across anyone with such a juvenile approach to a discussion except when they are trolling or flaming and you are doing neither because you're absolutely serious.

I'll await your final "I know you are but what am I?" response and then I hope can leave me be.

dude you're the one being a jerk here, not her. not saying that you might not have some valid points, but she is merely pointing out that a lot of the things you have a problem with are not exclusive to SC and she's listing some good things about your state to balance out the negative things you're pointing out.

When the snow starts falling, you'll change your tune about the sunny South.
I will save you a spot on the beach in about 4 months.

It gets so hard having to spell out shit for people. Look, this is the whiners thread, so I took it upon myself to bitch about some of the things I dislike about this state.

Read her very first post in this thread. Basically she went right into northerners are the assholes, She's NEVER encountered racism here(gimme a break) and how out of state people doing 80mph leave you on the side of the road and blah blah blah.

It's her style of discussion that frustrates me. I have debated with her in other threads. She basically goes for the "Nah ahh" arguement first. Then she makes the most meatless barely relevant points and when you shoot holes in them or defeat her in debate she takes her ball and goes home ie "just leave then dude".

She leaves no room to consider the other side even for a moment like when she called bullshit when I talked about the dude at the chic filet crying because of the treatment he has gotten here due to being a northerner.

That dude still works there and he looks to be in his 40's he is from NY and has the accent that makes him a target. That shit happened but her denial is a brick wall and I hope you get to experience it yourself in a thread one day so the light bilb goes off as to where I'm coming from.

You called me a jerk, fine but if you can't see the smugness mixed in with her ignorance that's not my fault. Look at her cockiness with the flag portion of our discussion. She kept trying to speak as thoug this had me on the ropes and repeatedly went back to it simply because I didn't lay down the card yet that I know it's still on the state grounds where my state officials are conducting current day state affairs and not reenacting the civil war.

I asked her not to adress me in ANY other threads for a reason, not to be a jerk. I truthfully don't want to keep doing this dance with her. As soon as she pops up in a thread I know where the conversation is getting ready to go.

This state is famous for it's attitude of being independant from the rest of the country, it's racism and it's bigotry are historical and deep rooted. You may be cool with her dismissing this kind of shit by talking about how beautiful the lowlands are but I aint havin it.

Of course this being a forum I am going to have to hear out other peoples opinions and usually that's great but I asked her to avoid me because I find her conversation predictable and juvenile and I don't want her making a habit of following my posts to continue to try to debate me with such methods of conversation.

Mothman from my experience in the forums you are an extremely black and white person and can't stand it when someone does not agree with you.

As for the flag issue, I merely pointed out you were wrong. You said it was still on top of the Capitol building, I said it was on capital grounds. Did I state my opinion on this? No, not once.

This is a public forum and if you do not wish for people to debate with you I advise you to keep your opinions to yourself.

And trust me Im not going to follow your posts lol.

My entire point in this thread is that every place has it's pros and cons. And assholes are everywhere but so are good people

And there it is, the "I know you are but what am I" I was wating for.

Actually you did not say it was on statehouse grounds at all. You simply mentioned that it was moved to a war memorial and failed to mention that it this memorial is at the steps of the statehouse and that this was a compromise reached when the black caucus and NAACP wanted it removed completely and this state did not want to comply. You tried to make a counter point with what you didn't say here and you didn't get away with it. You know full well that this state is stuck in the past and that fact is indefensible. coincidentally they are talking about putting it back on the dome currently, look it up.

You were not just trying to point out that it was not up there. You were defending my comment about this rebel flag not being in a museum wher it belongs and instead being on the statehouse grounds. You attempted to make it sound as if this memorial and the statehouse had nothing to do with one another.

You weren't actually making a point at all though. It's like if we were debating in court the issue of you crashing into my car by running a red light and I told the judge you were headed eastbound and you proudly chimed into to say "no your honor I was headed northeast." You still hit my car and didn't really address that issue but still kept returning to the northeast direction as some kind of a bombshell dropped on my case against you. That's the kind of thing that makes true debate a hassle with you.

I love debate and have been disagreed with here since 2008 without any personal issues besides you and one other person. That's a damn good track record, one that makes your comment of me being so black and white seem to carry less weight.

What I can't stand is getting tied up in a debate with people who have alot to say and a strong opinion but consistently fail to challenge the points I've made by not really making a point themselves. You never seem to provide anything of substance and yet your challenge is still present and I'm left with the choice to ignore it or somehow address the nothingness you are so boldly presenting.

Furthermore I can visibly see your aggravation build up once your pointless points have been addressed and nuetralized until you reach a point where you then decide to just be a brat. Again I reference "just leave then dude".

I only ever intended to rant briefly about my disenchantment with this state but once you entered the thread it became pages of pointless bickering between us. Many people on here could have probably given me a hell of a debate with the things I threw out for you but instead I get caught up in "my state is pretty" more or less.

I don't wanna deal with that. That's where my frustration comes from with you, not the fact that we don't agree.

    Mothman, I hear you.
But I also see Melai's point.
I worked in Columbia for a summer and fall. Phone bank. most folks were young, working it as a second job or both.

I have a very odd accent. I learned to speak on the US/Canada border and it shows. But I can hit a somewhat southern pacing, as I lived too many years in Texas. But I do not sound southern, especially to southerners.

I found social friendliness, curiosity about "your country where ya learned to talk," and a subtle closing off when my ethnic background came up. Being an invisible minority is always a social experiment. See, I'm Jewish, but have nonJews as well, so I have pale skin, red hair and unfortunately a very Irish look.

I wondered at the Confederate flags, too. Blew my mind the day I picked up lunch at a barbecue place and the owner hopped into his truck next to my car, Confederate flag waving. He was black. I met his wife. Also black. She had a wicked sense of humor, so who knows.

It isn't a place I'd move to again, but a large part of that is weather.
But I d do another stint under one year, for the right money.

Ive lived in methed out places in Colorado, plenty of drug problems in the SF Bay Area, plenty of annoying, preachy, law writing evangelicals, too, in both places.

Thank you for your well-balanced post, drumminmama.

Interesting that the guy flying the flag was black...I can't say I've ever seen that.

The weather is horrible. I think the number one reason I would move out of this state is the weather. The summers are suffocatingly hot.

Every place in the world has pros and cons.

I am new to this forum. I grew up in the Greenville area and I hated it so much, that I left the USA five years ago and haven't been back. I totally agree with Mothman's post. In all fairness; there are some good people in SC, but they are diamonds in the rough. You really have to seek out the good people in SC or face an existence of total loneliness. If you're in your late twenties (or older) and single forget about having a social life! Most everyone marries or co-habitaties straight out of college and has nasty separations or divorces in five years or less. If you're thinking of moving to SC and single be content to hang out with the barflies! I have Cerebral Palsy and use a wheelchair . After visiting nine different countries and living in two of them for at least six months or more; I found that people in the deep south are the most uncomfortable around people with disabilities in the Western Hemisphere! People with disabilities are not encouraged to get an education or attain personal independence in SC. The disabled in SC are encouraged to sit at home, watch TV or go to a conservative Bible Study where they are told not to complain about their situations and feel proud to be Americans. The people who create these conservative Bible studies are usually rich Republicans who do not see a need to be proper advocates for the rights of the disabled. I found it very difficult to gain an entry level position out fresh out of high school in 1998! In 1999, I had to crawl to The Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for a sweatshop like job. I eventually got a fee paid job at Ryans Steakhouse rolling silverware! I kept the job for two and a half years until befriending people in The Instructional Computing Department at Greenville Technical College. I worked as a lab manager for five years until I earned a TEFL Certificate. I then left for Europe where I continue to work and reside.

It is amusing when people move to an area and immediately begin complaining about local climate and culture, demanding that they change to fit the newcomer's notion of how to talk and act.

I am sure that someone who lacked the funds to escape South Carolina could sit on the road side with a cardboard sign that says, "Please help this Yankee go home!" and folks would cheerfully donate money to your travel fund.

Although I am from Georgia, I have met enough South Carolina women to know that I want one in my life, even if it meant abandoning the Peach State for the Palmetto State. (Meliai are you reading this?)

    iamtigerpaw,
If the people of South Carolina don't want to go anywhere else..
and you don't like the people of South Carolina...
    isn't that a good thing?
As long as you never cross the border into that place...
you will never see one of them again!

LOL - Chic-fil-a....yet ANOTHER place that treated me like relative doo-doo, and yet ANOTHER place I'd have been more than glad to work for minimum wage. But, no - better to hire a young'un with No Experience Whatsoever (I was told this by the no-experienced person that was hired at MORE than minimum wage, I might add. :D) Ah, but yes, they were "fresher".

I know what you mean about northerners.

Thankfully, when i moved from the north to the south, I got a largely friendly place. I attribute it to all the mexicans-cops are massive asswipes, however. (the mexicans who try to out-white each other are the peeps who go be LEO's)

But everyone here commented, upon hearing where I moved from, that they'd been to NY or wherever, and everyone was so mean/cold/whatever-here everyone waves an you drive by, you HAVE to greet people you walk by, etc.

In the north, people mind their business. A lot of people who act overly nice here are less nice than the guys who stare strait ahead as they pass you in new england. It's just a different social norm, but I found people to be colder to strangers, but that was more or less disconnected to wether or not they where mean or nasty people.

As for the drivers, I suggest you mount spud cannons on your fenders, with triggers on the steering wheel.

If you get in trouble, you can just say they're for your exterminating line of work (and if the trouble is for shooting a vehicle, say that you mistook them for a giant cockroach).
