does this help in tightening dreads, too? i'm going to have to pick up some tea tree oil. sounds fantastic! when you say 2T, what does that mean? is it teaspoons or tablespoons or something else?
T is tablespoon t is teaspoon i really didnt measure when i did mine though just went by mostly water, less lemon juice and salt and little tea tree oil
I just wanted to say how great this forum is! Alot of burning questions have been answered. I am going to try out this baking soda concoction tonight. I have been using pure aloe vera from a health food store and mixing it with water to moisturize the dreads a bit because I noticed some split ends where happening and I started to get concerned. I have been using dreadhead shampoo for 3 years now and I have been struggling to find an alterenative because it dry's my scalp too much. Any suggestions on natural moisturizing techniques would be much appreciated. Thanks
i swear i'm gonna give up on dr bronners and everything else and just use this! its the only thing that leaves my hair really clan and rinsed out. even by diluting the dr b waaaaaaay more than everyone else here, i still cant rinse it out without using vinegar. stupid hard water! i got a special pink bucket for the concoction, and when ive finished dunking my hair i pour the leftovers down the loo, keeps that nice and shiny too! bonus!
Yeah Bronners is great stuff but will leave residues in dreads. I love Bronners so don't get me wrong but its just not best for dreadies.
The baking soda got my dreads so purely clean! Completely stripped away the residues =) Didn't notice any extra tightening because I probably didn't add enough salt (just estimated)... next time I'll add more. Perhaps I'll also add some rosemary oil since it's good for strengthing the roots... definitely gonna experiment with it.
i read it as three quarters of a cup of bicarb. errrrr now i dont know if i done it right :S anyhoo, i dumped in about half a little pot and it worked for me!
This stuff works great, My head was itching like crazy while I had my head wrapped up. but once I rinsed it with really hot water, the itchyness was gone. I used Apple Cider vinegar and took out the lemon and the salt and it still worked great. Got all the tobacco smoke residue out of my hair! Yay!
Did this give anyone else some serious itchy-scalp?? maybe its the baking soda in spain, but whatever it is my head will not stop itching. or maybe its cause they are really starting to knot and my scalp is itchy. but i used this concotion three days ago and now i itch like crazy
Aah. forgot to post here the other day! So I used this about two or three days ago. I had some gunk in some of my dreads.. really weird.. my guess is hard water + dr. bronners = build up. It was a squishy somewhat sticky feel, no odor though; so not mold which is good. But anyway I mixed up this stuff with some relatively hot water and soaked my hair for about 8 minutes. Rubbed it in, wrung em out, dunked.. repeated over and over. The concoction, once nearly clear, was a nice shade of gray by then lol Sat around for about half an hour, took a quick shower to rinse it out as best I could (was called in very short notice to work). But once they had dried.. WOW.. There's such an AWESOME difference. my god I am so happy. The gunk is 95% gone.. Gonna do it again in a few days to clear it all out for sure. And not just that, my dreads even look nicer in general.
ooooo sounds good, i will haveto try this out. I only have 4 dreads at the moment however, the rest of my hair is in little plaints for now. I think the concoction will still work though. thanks for sharing. I love tea tree oil.
This stuff works for sure! After I washed there was this ashy grey sludge in the water and my dreads were lighter! (in weight) very nice
